A high-ranking Thai official yesterday reaffirmed Thailand 's intention to return all Lao illegal migrants home within the year through bilateral cooperation channels in line with the consensus reached between the two governments.

Thai-Lao General Border Sub-committee Chief, Lieutenant General Nipat Thonglek, spoke at a press c onference yesterday following the four-day 17th meeting of the General Border Committee's secretariat in Vientiane from May 18-21.
“I reaffirm Thailand 's intention, and we continue to do our best to ensure Lao illegal migrants return within the year,” said Lieutenant General Nipat, who is also head of the secretariat's Thai delegation.
He said the migrants had created a problem for the Thai government for three years and there was no reason to hesitate in returning them home.
“Everything must be done in line with the consensus reached by our two governments,” he said.
According to Lao-Thai General Border Sub-Committee Chief Brigadier General Bouasieng Champaphanh, the two governments confirmed this consensus by signing minutes of their meeting in March.
The minutes of the Lao-Thai and Thai-Lao Joint Commissions' 17th meeting held in Luang Prabang province in March were signed when President Choummaly Sayasone and his delegation paid a state visit to Thailand from May 12-14 after approval of the plan by the Thai parliament.
Brigadier General Bouasieng, who heads the secretariat's Lao delegation, said the issue had been under discussion since 2006 through meetings at various levels between the two governments.
He said each meeting had recognised that all the individuals concerned, including 158 people detained in Thailand 's Nong Khai province Temporary Immigration Detention Camp were illegal migrants.
“All illegal migrants, both in Nong Khai and in Phetchabun province's detention camp, must be sent home, but which group is to be sent first is up to the Thai government,” he said.
Of 7,800 illegal migrants detained in Thailand , 2,807 in 578 family groups have returned to Laos .
Brigadier General Bouasieng said the Lao government was well prepared to receive the migrants even if the Thai government returned them in a large group.
During yesterday's session, the two sides agreed upon various issues including exchange of information in various fields, enhancement of security cooperation along the two countries' shared border, and cooperation between the two armies and police services.
Both sides will enhance cooperation on prisoners, d rug law enforcement and prevention, border crossings and inspections as well as addressing the issue of people holding dual citizenship.
The Lao side thanked the Thai government for facilitating visits by Lao officials to illegal migrants in a temporary detention camp in Houaynamkhao village on February 19.
On this occasion, Lao officials explained to the detainees the government's policy to return all illegal migrants.
The Lao side also thanked the Thai government for providing 1.5 million baht to build a dispensary in Phalak village in Kasi district, Vientiane province.
The two sides will continue to cooperate with each other in dealing with criminal elements who intend to harm Laos and Thailand 's relationship. Working to combat global terrorism and the illegal trade in endangered animals and plants is also on the agenda.

First of all..Thanks to the Samakomlao webmaster to closed down some of stupid topics in the webboard that will make disunited between Lao-Thai users here. I don't wanna see that happen either!!!
well..This is not the first case but many of our Lao workers never learn from the last times. Also it waste of time to writing in here as most of non-educated people wont log on and read about this. They don't even know how to use internet or computer.
But aren't they never know to never seen it from TV that if you go to work as illegal work in Thailand or other country you may not lucky to have good employer that will treat you well. But most of you may get bad employer and force you to work work and work 20 hrs a day with little money or just a bowl of rice.
Thanks to some of Thai Police that help them be free and treat them well before send of these Laotiane back to Lao safely and some of them are lucky tha Thailand they trained them some working skills before send them back as they will have new skill to survive in Lao.
My opinion is they must go to work by legal way and have work permit to work there. If you go to work in the right way..Thai Ministry of Labor will help for health insurance when you sick you can go to hospital free of charge. You get the right salary, meals, transportation and living like local people there.

I always stand in the middle way. I don't hate Thai and I don't hate myself being Laotiane. I'm not a kind of poor people and I never have some bad experiences of Thai look down on me like other Laotiane do. Why Do I hate them with non reason.
This webboard to be created to Laotiane to share experiences or any questions to ask somebody who expert in something that we they don't know. But I found that most of the people here writing I hate Thai I hate everything about Thai. And stuck in the old stupid history. don't blame the Thai people for sending them back. i mean, it's a big population explosion there. they breed like rabbits. no way they can support thier families under those conditions. best thing was to come back. there will be some back lash and some hardtimes before thier families can get it started again but, in a generation or two they will have earned enough to finally buy that new family buffalo! they are lao, times change and they should either adapt to the new way of thinking here or go the way of the dinosaur.
. They are just refugee and 3rd class population there.
