Please do not misunderatand between the salary and minimum wage, ok. 290,000-248,000 kips a month, This is salary for the hole month. a minimum wage mean pay by an hour not a month, you do the math. 248.000 kips a month new salary divide by $1=8.500-9,000 kips =0.029 to 0.31 an hours. Which mean these workers make about 29-31 cents minimum wages. Am i right ??? Maybe i don't understand his/her head line..

I think  i made a mistake by not reading pasalao clearly, they were saying about increased the salary for the garments employee, from 290.00 to 348.000 kips a month. not 248.000-290.000 kips a month.I apologized for my mistake. so you divided 348.000 a new salary by $1=8500-9000 kips=0.039-0.040 cents per hours.. and that mean the the garment workers make only  39-40 cents minimum wages....

Well, I only saw the title “Laos increases Minimum Wage” and I did not hesitate to copy the link and pasted here because I thought it was good news for Laotians and that’s all I read. Also, I do know quite well what a minimum wage is. Though it does not sound a lot of money for those workers, but at least there is a standard set limit by law that employers can not compensate their employees lower than whatever the Laotian kip is. That is very nice. But thank you anyway for your effort to do some math for me.

Firstly, I just want to express my gratitude with honor for your question.  I will gladly answer you. After all, we were once compatriotic as fellow Laotian and we still are but not in our motherland where we were born. Majority of us do want to see Laos and our people moving forward economically in the 21st century. I can hardly fathom any scornful comments against each other here among our folks. To answer you truthfully about my political affiliation, I don’t really have one as I said before, I am pro-peace and prosperity, so my stance is still unchanged. As for a CPA, no I am not a certified public accountant.  I simply don’t like the job. If you plan to open your own CPA firm then it is worth considering it. I do have background in accounting and some other credentials. I am not really sure now if I want to go for MBA because I want to expose myself in different areas especially in an IT-high-tech industry.

Having said that, I want a degree in software engineer or computer science, so I talked with my counselor last week and I have the whole summer to make up my mind. For some reason, software engineer and computer science are related. I was told that they divided into 2 categories, software applications and software analyses.  I didn’t mind taking statistics but these fields require calculus math and probably levels 3-5. Embarrassingly, I am not doing too well with math. You know? As far as posting news about Laos, sure I will if I see it intriguing.

How’ve you been doing in the state? I assume you live in the US. Take care of yourself first before you think of others. Remember, when you are poor, your close friends or cousins become distant and remote.

Regards,

LOL, Khonthakek.  You and I were both from the same province and the same town which means we are the true sons of the Lord Sykode (Pa chao Sykode) I concur they earn such a small compensation for their labors and I sincerely hope they get higher wages when the company starts making more profits. sorrow.gifcry.gif

What a trip that our house were on the same street.  How about you post some of your picture for us to see? I think it would be better.

SamakomLao members might have mistaken me for a ghost instead of Bruce Lee if they see my identity. I’d rather keep this misery to myself and I don’t want to traumatize others.  Which picture of me do you want to see? Ten years ago? Recently or when I was still a baby? I can only post one.

Ah ha! So it is you indeed. No need to claim resemblance of someone else ok. I wish I were still as young as you are LOL but per your request, here is my picture and sorry to cover my face because I am embarrassed.  So from now, you would no longer wonder how BLM looks like anymore. I am getting old and it is not easy for me to take it but it is a fact of life that we all have to face it eventually.cry.gifcrying.gif

Since you already saw it, I should remove it then. By the way, how can you use PS to remove it since I printed it after I painted it then I scanned it?
