(KPL) Laos is planning to recruit Anne Keothavong, a Lao-British tennis player, whose ranking is the top of the pole in England and ranked 48th in the world to play for Lao during the coming 25th SEA Games, but the Lao National Sports Committee is mulling over the problem of transferring her nationality so that her legal status is Lao.

Laos is already in touch with Anne and has already invited her to join the Lao women?s tennis team but she has not revealed any information on the offer to the press.

Anne was born on 16 September 1983, in Hackney, located in the north of London.
Her parents are Lao and they migrated to England from Laos some time back.

She started to play tennis from the age of seven.

If she refuse, don't worry my niece can replace her for ice skating. Right now she's only six.

yes, that really good news, if she would come to play for lao tennis team, at least i think she can make one gold medal for laos i really agree on that....

damn i wish i can play for my country, i am an okay guy at basket ball but since laos is not that big in basket ball right now i would love to play for our team haha dreams can come true.

any ways back to my point if my homeland asked me to play for them i would do it in a heart beat. wooooooot goo laos biggrin

I 've dreamed of representing of Lao PDR at the SEAGAMES and international event, but I wasn't selected for the national team, damn!! but at least used to represent of my chool to play football and Ka tor. if the SEAGAMES would open in the last 5-10 years ago, I think I would gona have a chance.

not sure about this. thai tenis player like Tammy is reach the intenational level too. i even think that she might be better than anne. Anyway if am wrong just forget it. But 100% cheer up for our lao player.

Laos signs up world-ranked tennis player for Games

OFFICIALS of the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) are not bothered by a report that Laos will enlist a world-ranked player in the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which it is hosting in December. Philta vice president Randy Villanueva said that whether Anne Keothavong, currently England’s No.1 and 48th in the world, plays for Laos in the biennial meet, they remain confident the association can meet its target of surpassing its lone gold medal haul in Korat, Thailand, in 2007.

CECIL MAMIIT will again lead the RP campaign.

“We’re not worried about who other countries will field. Our athletes are playing well nowadays, and I believe that we have a strong chance in Laos,” said Villanueva.

The other day reports came out that Laos is trying to recruit foreign athletes with Laotian blood. That includes Keothavong, 26, who was born to Laotian parents who migrated to England years ago.

“Laos is serious in its bid to at least finish within the top five,” said POC deputy secretary-general Salvador Andrada, who received the report from his sources in the Sea Games tennis community.

Keothavong has won 17 International Tennis Federation singles titles and four in doubles. She also played in Grand Slam events like the Wimbledon and the US Open.

Filipino-American Cecil Mamiit ruled the men’s singles competition for the country’s lone tennis gold medal in 2007.

Villanueva said Philta has yet to come out with its official lineup for the SEA Games but the team will most likely be composed of Mamiit, another Filipino-American Treat Huey, homegrown talents PJ Tierro, Johnny Arcilla and Australian Open juniors doubles champion Francis Casey Alcantara. He added that they are also talking to former SEA Games gold medalist Riza Zalameda about her possible return to the national squad.

The 23-year-old Zalameda, who won the mixed gold with Cecil Mamiit in Manila Games 2005, has shown interest in donning the national colors anew in the Laos Games, slated from December 9 to 18.

“We’re just ironing out some kinks such as her schedule because she’s competing in the [Women’s Tennis Association] Tour. We’re also thinking of giving some support on her training.”

Hey! khonthakek is never too late if you're still in football and ka tor just put your mind to it and go try out you never know may be you'll get pick to represent Lao PDR at the Sea game. It is possible that dream can come true be positive you'll have better out come don't give up be determent even if you fail don't give up and try again until you secceed.
