I'd like to know how come people like to use an alphabet (R) when ever phonetic  is being used to write Lao language?. Expel: Lao word for (house)  how come it's spelled as (barn)? not (bahn) or (baan). Sometimes I even saw people wrote down thank you for Lao word as (korp jai) instead of (khaup jai) . At first I thought it was a Thai person who was using phonetic to write Lao language, because  in the Thai laguage there's alot of tongue rolling actions. Although some of Lao words does have a pronounciation  with a tongue rolling action, such as (karouna)meaning (please) in English this would be aceptional to spells with (R). You know what I'm saying? I think that if everyone uses phonetic to write Lao language properly this would be easy to read,and well understood the meaning  behind it. Also for Lao children over sea or foreigner that interest to learn Lao language can get a more accurate pronouncations when they speak our language. I hoped this make sentce to all readers.  Thank you for your time

the problem is that Laos doesn't seem to have a standard system for romanisation of Lao words. some follow the French style (e.g. Oudon Thany), some follow the Thai system (e.g. Udon Thani), some cook up their own (e.g. Udorn Thanee). quite a headache for foreigners trying to learn Lao :P

When spelling the word for 'house', Americans are likely to add in the 'R' (barn), cos Americans tend to pronounce 'ban' to sound like 'ben' (Americans pronounce the 'A' as 'air', different from British, Australians, etc who pronounce it as 'ah').

So, it is a problem--Lao is going to loose its identity!

Let me share with all of you my opion.  Problems caused by either common or special cause.  Common cause can be solved by fixing the fundamentals--Lao foundation/culture, which will not take over night to fix.  Special cause can be solved by the process of elimination.

I mean to say that lao teens are now behavioring out of our origional culture.  Lao government needs to bring the culture back by heavily investing in our youngsters through new reformed education and entertainment.  LG needs to create a great roll-model in these two areas.  These roll-models will have great influence over the teens.

Steve Covey said taht we have been affectioned through three periods of time, which he calls Genetic, psychological, and environmental determinants.

For genetic determinant, we have to understand by accepting the fact.  Most of the time, we can not change it.  Our great great parents did it to us.  We can only need to learn how to re-direct the bad behavior and accentuate the good behavior.

For pshychological determinant, our father, mother and olders are doing it to us.  We also need to learn how to re-direct the bad behavior and accentuate the good beharior.  This perid is short--only 18 years.

For environmental determinant, during this perid, we have power to choose!  If we decide to be affected by the (good) environment surrounding us, then let it be.  we do not like the (bad) environment, then we have power to choose.

Lao American, quess what?  We have been practicing during the last 25 years.  Our parent chose to move out of the bad area and land in the good neighborhood.  We, the second generation, chose good colleges over another.  We always look for a better thing to do....

Lastly, we need to stop complaining.  Let's find a better resolution.  What do you think?

Please, don't use that language brother . It is just my opion and it is not up to me to make any decision. Even the Lao people of the whole country or around the world criticize the Lao government ( communist party) is not going to listen . Even French is not good for us, if French didn't come, we may not have the word Laos appearing in the word map because Laos would be Issan forever.

If you are afraid that Thai is the threat to Lao culture than the Chinese and Vietnamese. I would like you think again . The Chinese  and Vietnamese and Burmese also killed and destroyed Laos also. Why do they not teach new generation to hate Thai rather than trying to hate and fighting against the lao governmen?

My assumption is that:

Laonok living abroad do not see the same situation as Laonai can see about how bad thai people because in US, UK, France....where every one is equal,  thai people can't do or say any things shiit to them so they foget everything in the past about what thai people did to Lao. Then they become like thai people. For example, even they are Lao, when they open Lao restaurant, they still put the name of the restaurant as Thai restaurant. This show that Laonok forget themselves as they are Lao and from. They indirectly help other people to look down Lao more and more without intention.
