Street names of vientiane
Permalink

I am from australia and had a tour of south east asia which included laos cambodia and vietnam. Along my journey in vientiane i found a sign stating "rue phanom penh"
Which is french for phanom penh road. And phnom penh cambodia was the first stop of my tour and it was baffled. It was funny because for a second i thought that i was still in phnom penh. Just a funny story i would like to share and also it is good to see the historical and cultural history of Laos and neighbouring countries.
lol

The capital city of Cambodia is Phnom penh, and not spell like Phanompenh.
There are many words in Lao that sounds Phanom, for example, Phanom cave, Phanomyen waterfall, etc...

That Phnom Penh of course the capital city of Cambodia, if you see the Lao alphabet,. the way of spelling Phanom Penh is just what Lao and Thai spell for the word Phnom into there local pronounciation PHANOM... which is two syllable,. in Khmer pronounciation they pronounce only one syllable that's why the spell Phnom

yes, thai and lao cannot pronounce two ajoining syllables into one, Many original khmer words are corrupted into the following. Hense Phanom --> Phnom (Mountain). Sawadee --> Soursdey(hello). Vatsana -->Veasna(destiny). Chaabang-->Chbang(fight/conflict). Kradang-->Kdang (type of flower). Krabueng-->Kbueng(style). Kanom --->Knom(biscuit, pastry, dessert.

Would you considered "พระ" is a one syllable word or two syllables word? To me it's a one syllable word "พระ" not "พะระ".

Watches are a beautiful thing. Certainly, they tell us the time - but aren't they so much more than that? replicas watches Through their watches, a person can express so much, and in a way it could be said:replicas watches Show me your watch and I'll tell you who you are.
