Those 12 countries are trivial. Most are small Islands with population less than 800,000 each. Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan are not the Island though.
Im interested to know, too so here are the countries; full list is found in the link given by BLM. if Laos can at least surpass Myanmar, PNG and Afghanistan, that would be quite good.

I think it's GDP as a whole not GDP per person which means it's depend on the population of each country as well. Indonesia with 200 something millions compare to Thailand or 60 something millions of Thailand compare to 20 30 something millions of malasia or 300 something thousands of Singapore. So you can't compare Lao which is 6 something millions with Burmar which is 70 something millions. Vietnam 80 something millions but you never really know because Vietnamese doesn't like put their money in the Bank so I think it's difficult to know the true number.
For anyone who still doesn't get it, the numbers are for the whole country, all this does is show the relative size of various economies. Not the relative earnings within those countries.
Most people use purchasing power parity to measure how well off people of a country are.
Oh gosh, again laos is worst than Papua newguinea?????? 160% again 100%, just take 5000 devided by 8000. This small island is a new born country, about 6 years ago. Lest say bravo to our local laos people
Oh yeah, so what is wrong, if we have lower GDP than that island. I still see people eating, laughing and enjoy their life everyday. Don't spoil laos, if you want development, just care about ur country and tha'ts it.

I agree with you and another GDP comparation has been showed on this statistics:
Country
Growth rate of gross domestic product1/ at constant prices

I agree ,I don't care about GDP , Close you eye & think back to 1975 - 2009 What different, they getting better every year, don't compare with another country, LAO IS LAO, Keep going slow is OK, (set thakit phor phieng)
Some LAO people they don't have much, but they seem happy.

yes i agree with METTA. Since i was young, i alwys heard laow governemnt talks about economic growth, and friendship with vietnam. At last, in 2009, laos is worst than Papau New Guinea,
more than 80% of our population still live under poverty line. and Now someone talk about the growth rate again, but fact is fact our country is still the poorest in Asean.
At least we still alive and happy to live. So if we don't think much about rich or poor laos still live happily like other rich neighbors. Peace of mind is the most important factor in everyday life.

Oh yeah, just meditate to forget the hunger. Dont be a hypocrite, how can you have a true peace of mind if your stomach is empty... if you see your child cant go to school... Do you have peace of mind?
Laughing out loud is to appear your not affected when faced with a problem is different from true happiness..that is joy.
So I repeat my question...esp you who can afford to use a computer and have the luxury of time to surf the web.... DO YOU HAVE PEACE OF MIND??? Are you sure you dont wish you can have more??? GIve me an honest answer.
I was talking about people in Laos, most of them don't know how to use internet. So they do not care about computer, and they do not feel sad if they can use it. The result is happy, . Do you want them to be sad or what??

If most of Vietnamese does not like to save their money in the Bank so where do they put it then? Don't say they just gig their backyard and put money into a vase cover it up?

You have no idea, do you?
Vietnamese had a bad experience with the bank back then when the communist took control all of their money were gone just like that. So after that they would rather spend it all or save their money in other place or in the other kind of property in the form of gold maybe or even US dollar.
I was right about Vietnamese doesn't like put their money in the Bank. but I was wrong about not to know the real GDP because the government still need to print bank note so they must know or maybe not if people prefer US dollar.
hahah see, many of us even do not know what is gdp is?. Take the total production of country then devided by the population number. Nothing to do with population man. If u spend a second to think before u comment you should know. Think about china, if GDP is calculated like your wishes than every one in china is the richest man on planet hahaha Dooo maa!

LOL YOU ARE THE STUPID ONE NOT OTHER PEOPLE. YOU ARE THE ONE WHO SHOULD TAKE SOMETIMES (A BIG ONE) TO THINK BEFORE COMMENT SO YOU DON'T MAKE A FOOL OF YOURSELF.
"The gross domestic product (GDP) or gross domestic income (GDI) is a basic measure of a country's economic performance and is the market value of all final goods and services made within the borders of a nation in a year."
SO HELL YEAH! IT'S DEPEND ON POPULATION AS WELL IF YOUR PEOPLE ARE NOT TOO LAZY THE CHANCE OF THE MORE PEOPLE YOU GOT THE MORE GDP YOU GOT.
EXCEPT SOME COUNTRY LIKE SINGAPORE. THEY GOOD WITH BUSINESS SO THE POPULATION MEANS NOT THING.
BUT I'M CONFUSED BY YOUR COMMENT.
ANYWAY CHINA HAD A HIGH GDP BUT A LOW GDP per capita. HIGH GDP BECAUSE CHINA HAS MORE THAN 1 BILLION PEOPLE AND LOW GDP per capita BECAUSE AGAIN CHINA HAS MORE THAN 1 BILLION PEOPLE. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN?
see? now you spend some hours googling before you comment. Good boy. It also help other to know what is GDP means. So it is not depend on how big a country is, but how the government performs. rite my boy?

GDP per Capita - An approximation of the value of goods produced perperson in the country, equal to the country's GDP divided by the total number of people in the country.
GDP - is a basic measure of a country's economic performance and is the market value of all final goods and services made within the borders of a nation in a year . It is a fundamental measurement of production and is very often positively correlated with the standard of living. [1]. GDP can be defined in three ways, all of which are conceptually identical. First, it is equal to the total expenditures for all final goods and services produced within the country in a stipulated period of time (usually a 365-day year). Second, it is equal to the sum of the value added at every stage of production (the intermediate stages) by all the industries within a country, plus taxes less subsidies on products, in the period. Third, it is equal to the sum of the income generated by production in the country in the period—that is, compensation of employees, taxes on production and imports less subsidies, and gross operating surplus (or profits).
REAL GDP - The number reached by valuing all the productiveactivity within the country at a specific year's prices. When economic activity of two or more time periods is valued at the same year's prices, the resulting figure allows comparison of purchasing power over time, since the effects of inflation have been removed by maintaining constant prices.
Here is the South East Asian countries GDP per capita and the GDP 2008 & 2009 (Prelim. report) all in USD ($).
Country 2008 GDP/capita GDP 2008 GDP 2009 (prelim.report) Brunei 53,100 14,553 14,695 Singapore 52,000 181,939 176,543 Malaysia 15,300 222,219 212,480 Thailand 8,500 273,248 268,581 Indonesia 3,900 511,765 468,389 Philippines 3,300 168,580 156,441 Vietnam 2,800 89,829 89,200 Lao PDR 2,100 5,260 5,585 Cambodia 2,000 11,182 11,892
oh boy, u must be working for the government to corrupt our people. Where is the link or evidence to support that we reach over 2000$ in GDP percapita??
Don't be foul, see what our friend has posted? you can foul the farmers, but not us my boy. When our farmer get edcated, you may have only **** to eat, cause can't corrupt anymore
In case you didnt notice, this is already put side-by-side with the GDP per capita 2 posts above yours. It shows that though Laos has low GDP but its GDP per capita is higher since population is low compared to...lets say Cambodia with a higher GDP but also higher population, that made the GDP per capita lower than Laos.
But it is true that GDP and GDP per capita alone is not a reliable indicator of how the government is performing in terms of lifting the people from poverty or making a geographical distribution of wealth in a country. If you follow the logic of GDP per capita, it will mean that in Laos each person will have >$2000 from the GDP but.. be REAL boy, its not the case because it does not take into consideration the distribution of wealth....Reality is wealth is only concentrated to some people (you know what I mean) that is the reason why you still dont see progress in the state of life in majoriy of the people especially those living in non-popular area. Most of the development you only see in VNT, VNT province, LPB, Savannakhet, Champasak, Luangnamtha. But the rest are still living in the dark. Which is another Irony considering that Laos is labeled as the battery of the south east asia.
But Laos has to to be thankful because at least looking at the national level it looks better than other smaller countries like MOngolia.
See? u are very good to fool farmers in Laos, but not us my boy. First show us the link to support ur what every bullshat argument.
Go to wikipedia, you can see that Laos has similar population to Papua New guinea, over 6300000 people. The the PPP, purchasing power is 69% lower than this small island, agian if u dont know how horrible the economy of this country is then open ur mind again.
what you showed us is PPP GDP not Nominal GDP. wanan know what the diffrent, easy google it.
More over, see the topic about int media talk about poverty and development in laos. M waiting for your comment over there, n m sure that u must be stuck

If you want my reply quote my comment because I don't know who are you talking to.
I'm a little surprised that Thailand outranked Singapore in GDP, but then if we really consider the size of the country and the population involved, then it lights up a bit. That is a very interesting list.
Watches are a beautiful thing. Certainly, they tell us the time - but aren't they so much more than that? replicas watches Through their watches, a person can express so much, and in a way it could be said:replicas watches Show me your watch and I'll tell you who you are.
