WASHINGTON (AP) — President Obama has made no changes to the annual U.S. list of major illicit drug producers and transit countries.
The president is required to make the designation to Congress every year. They were released by the State Department late Tuesday.
The 20 countries designated are: Afghanistan, the Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Burma, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.
Of these, Bolivia, Burma (also known as Myanmar) and Venezuela were found to have "failed demonstrably" to meet commitments to combat production and trafficking of drugs.
That designation can result in U.S. aid cuts, but Obama spared both Bolivia and Venezuela, citing a national interest waiver.
i don't know what the situation of drug in Laos, because I never made this kind of business, But our family used to grow of weed (Marijuana). it was only for chicken soup and i heard that ppls live in the northern Laos and near the Myanmar 's border have grown opium to use for Medicine purpose . I still believe that many local ppls in the northern and Golden Triangle area are still growing opium and weed and then transfer to the neighbor such as china, Burma and Cambodia and then those Mafia buy it and import to COLUMBIA and Mexico and then to USA.
90% is produced in Afganistan, a country the US has nominal control over. The rest from Burma etc. Laos still produces but almost entirely for local consumption.

What is external source? I believe there are many people live up there remain growing the opium according to what i heard. but sorry i don't have any evidences to show you. it's probably people up there has areadly give up growing that and growing vegetable instead.
and thailand ? it is the heaven place for drugs smugglers, trafickers and consumers but it is not in the black list Do you know that people from samneua immigrated to Vientiane by hundreds, why ? because the plantation of opium and marijuana, wild animal hunting is trictly, i said strictly prohibited. The burning of tons of drugs that took place in thatluang square twice or three times a year and each time with the attendance of the Us ambassador and other international organizations, but not satisfying those diplomates and still saying laos doesn't meet the commitment of combating the prduction and traficking drugs...
