My daughter who's born and raise in Michigan USA is speaking 100% Laotian action as same as her English. She's not speak just Laotian and English but, Spanish, France and some German. Please help teach Lao's language to all of our kits to keep our mother language for the next generation of our people who live in the other countries if you are a real Laotian.
Miss Asian American Speak Lao 50% mix with English 50% sounds very cute
But many young people in Laos are now speak 50% Lao mix with 30% Thai and 20% English, and 10% non-language 5555
Speak 50/50 mixed with Laotian and English is better than someone non speak Laotian at all. I travel almost every States in The US and see 95% of Laotian parents speak broken English with their kits in their ages from 1 to 5 and 6 years old. I asked them how come don't talk to them kit in Laotian? I got very funny answer from those people " We try to help our children speak English " Great! if you aren't speak broken English with them. We call " Phaasaa Angkit Talat"
It is not so easy being Laotian in USA or another foreign Country. It is hard and confuse for the Lao-American kids to be influence in Lao speaking language. It is not suitable for their daily life nor outside of the Lao's communities. As they are suposed to be perfect speak English or they will be a big joke at school or in the public. And they are expected to speak perfect Lao language as well. Life is tough here in USA. Some parents have to work while their kids sleep, they come home to sleep when the kid go to school. This is not an excuse but it is reallity in fact even worse some parents are working on the weekend. Amy is born and raise in USA , personally I think her parent have done a good job that she is able to speak Lao language that well. I am urging all Laotian to teach the kid to speak Lao language in between family, teach them about our rich and nice Culture. Let them know where are we from and why are we different. Don't worry the kide will learn to speak English in time. The more languages they know is the better for them.
That's pretty good for a US-born and raised Lao-American. There are some kids who were born in Laos, moved overseas and don't speak any Lao. Some don't even understand Lao.
Though the majority of Lao-Americans I know do speak a mix. It's inevitable in today's environment. Some of the older folks even mix it up some nowadays.
