All foods are looking good. They seam to expansive if serving in restaurant. Any way, they look like more Lao disk than Thai's or Cambodian's. I would love go back to Laos and became Buddhist Monk if I have to "SANH" ( eat ) this kind of foods daily. Because of good free foods like that, now in Laos Monk population is increasing rapidly.
Moreover, I saw a man wearing yellow ristband. Theis yellow ristband thing has been popular among Thai people to pay their respect to the Thai King because in the ristband there is a sentence said "We love the King". I guess that these photos are from Thailand for sure, not from Lao or Cambodia.
Whether in Thailand or Lao or India but if they offering too much kind of food. It seem not too good to seeing these monks eating like that. The Buddhist monk should eat to live. Not live to eat.

Think so. Anyway just want to correct some informations. It's in Thailand for sure not in Lao.
Being a monk you can not choses whether you want to eat luxury food or not. Monk must eats whatever food that people offered as long as the food is eatable and not do no harm to the monk.
Monk is one of the best occupation in Laos or other Buddhist countries. there is a place to stay ( Nice temple) and there are many food to choose and no need to cook by themselves. there is a school to attend and book to read. specially Monk live in the city and developing country , Monk is rich in Thailand and aboard ?
Manies lifes has passed away, just to be food for these monks and I believed that each monk could not eat all of them. So some of these animals have to died for free and throw their body into the garbage
I think this subject's very low in thinking, or low blowing Buddhism. Monks gets offering at noon, Big ceremony (boon) means more people and more foods. People like me who can't cook well stops at Chinese or Thai restaurants to pick up foods. All the food the monks don't finish doesn't go to waste. Everyone at the temple share the foods. After the offering anyone may chose to take foods, candy or whatever home to their families or friends. As a monk they eat little of this and that to give thanks to the people. The people in return feels full of happiness, it's a little good they can do for their religion. I know I feel good... offering to monks who in return teaches religion to me is better than offering it to Casino, Night Clubs etc. So if you don't offer don't feel bad, it's not your money. The Dali Lama was once ask by a western reporter, "the people of tibet is already poor, why do you take things from them?" Dali Lama tells the reporter that when people offer something, it's because they want to give, give from their heart, their mind, and brings happiness to their lives. Rejecting it, is like shutting them from their religion. Anyway his holy Dali says it much better LOL. To end things, Monk doesn't have a 9 to 5 job, they have a 24hr one, preach the buddhism and help the trouble and lost find a way to happiness.

Laymen in Buddhist countries believe that the good food they offer to the monks, they will receive the same good fod when they pass away and live in the heaven. That is why they give the best food to the monks so that they will also enjoy the same food when they die.

Lao monk yes, Thai monk not much
Because Lao monk and people use their bare hands to pick the food but Thai monk and people don't do that. Just look at those pictures.

Has anyone ever heard of a saying "food for thought" I believed that if a person is well feed, as a result their body & brain function better. That's why in a big and developed countries especially in America, parents made sure that their kids eat breakfast before they left for school and there's a breakfast program in the school as well, for the student who's parent don't have time to make breakfast because they have to leave for work early and have their kid buy breakfast at school for very low prize, for the low income/poor parents usually their kids eat free.
As a mother of 3 I made sure my kids eat well, my husband and I are factory workers and we are consider a low middle income family here in the U.S.A. In my house hold both my husband and I take turn to cook in making sure our kids have variety of food through out the week .
My kids liked to eat Lao food, Chinese, French, American, and Mexican .
All of my kids did very well in school, all 3 are in High honer rolls and my first born have finished college last sumer. My believe is how important it is to eat well or good.

I saw Southern Thai Monk, most Thai Muslim and some central Thai people use their bare hands to pick up the food mix with long grain rice and feed it in to their mouths. Don't try to show off that Thai Monk and Thai people don't use their bare hands to pick up the food. We, Lao people or Monk, use bare hand only to hold a bunch of sticky rice. Beside rice we use fork, spoon or shopstick to pick up food from the disks in to our mouth. We never use bare hand to pick up the food when we serve our meal with long grain rice. CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL PEOPLE FIRST BEFORE YOU BLAME OUR PEOPLE, BUCK HOA KOY. BUCK HOA BAIN.

That was enought to spread the disease. Yes Thai people use our bare hands too but not with the food that being shared.
and who try to show off BUCK HOA KOY. BUCK HOA BAIN.
Yea, me too! I worried about spreading germs alot when I see all hands dig into the same sticky rice basket or sharing soup bowl with many people and eat left over from monks SA! THOO. Seriously this traditions has to change for health reasons. The doctors are even against mother who have a habit of picking up a dirty pacifier after a baby dropped it on the floor than lick it and give it to her baby . The reason behind it is the germ from adult's mouth can cause decaying teeth in a baby.
They also using same same drinking bowl or cup too.
Don't worry guys, even in American or Japan people still eat KFC Chicken with bare hands
If we eat sticky rice with fork and spoon it may looks terrible hahaha....
Just sepparate our rice busket and drink water from the bottle to prevent these infection but if we do it in the villege, people might think that we are crazy or act like buffalo forget the feet.
Anyway, Winter is coming also Swine Flu also coming. Tack Care

I don't think you fully understand the concern about people eating/sharing from the same dish, bowl, and etc not a person using thiet hands to put food in their mouth. In my family we don't share soup from the same bowl, only rice basket and that's because all family members washes their hands before each meal time.
To Laos girl,I knew what you mean. But some time you must understand that if we do like that our local people might think that we are Ka-dae
I would rather be safe than sorry! when it comes to health scare like a deadly disease such as H1N1 I think Lao need to make some kind of change in our costume/tradition to prevent the spreading of this deadly disease.
I noticed that people in America do not shake hands as much as they used to rather, the just tab the back of their hand with the other person when they introduce themselves, and even a patient have the right to ask his/her doctor to wash their hands before touching him/her if a doctor forgot to wash his/her hands before touching his patient and doctor is no longer can wear long neck tie to hospital/clinic like they used to. This is an example of costume/tradition that have change to make a better and safe environment for the people in your society and in your country.

THIS MUST BE YOUR FIRST TIME SEEING THIS KIND OF FOOD IN YOUR LIFE TIME THIS WHY YOU DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LAO FOOD AND THAI. AS A LAOTIAN I CAN TELL YOU THAT ALMOST ALL OF THOSE DISHES ARE THAI DISH. THE ONLY THINK THAT IS LAO DISH IS ONE OF THE DESSERT WHICH IS THE COLORFUL PATTIES COVERED WITH SHREDDED COCONUTS. YOU CAN REST YOUR CASE NOW UNLESS YOU'RE TRYING TO MAKE AN ISSUE OUT OF THIS.
I Agree With You 100 % , The Monk Should Have Ask People To Bring Vegetarian Food Only? If They Are So Rich They Should Donate All Food To Homeless And Poor People

you should know that people bring food to the monk is not because to give for monk, but the food will be given to their ancestors who passed away! i know that my grandmother loved to eat '' Big fish" so i will serve " big fish" to the temple.

yeah, Food Not For Monk? THEN The Monk In Those Pictures Must Eat Something Else Ha?
THE FOOD THAT ARE GIVEN TO THE MONKS IS TO SHOW OUR APPRECIATION TO THEIR DEVOTIONS AND SACRIFICE OF GIVING UP THINGS THAT WE AS LAY PEOPLE CAN NOT GIVE UP FROM OUR DAILY LIFE LIKE THOSE MONKS DID IN ORDER FOR THEM TO STAY IN THE TEMPLE FOR MEDITATION, PRACTICE SELF DISCIPLINE NOT TO HAVE THE DIRE AS MAN NORMALLY DO AND TO CONTINUE THE TEACHING OF BUDDHA.

Look at the monk's face. He seem to be really enjoyable eating big crabs
I can say for sure that most likely that is Thai Temple but not in Thailand. That's not lao style to serve monk the way they are serving. Any way all the food looks yummy but, i wouldn't eat it simply because when food looks that good it means someone fingers are over it. hehehe
For everyone who's posted about these Monk's eating well, not wealthy. All the food you see here are offerings from the people of the village or city or town that these Monks have visited. Yes, it's extravagant and boy would I like some, but it's all the choice of the people. The Monk's made no requests, there was no menu. It's all about the 'Boon' (sort of like heaven's merit) the better you take of someone on earth, the better you are received in heaven. I'm not saying the if the rich can afford more expensive food/gifts that they will enter heaven any higher, it's what you give compared to your means. If you can only afford rice and vegetables...it's still worth (in heaven's eyes) the same as lobster from a wealthier person.
Seeing Monks exploit monies collected from people of the town or village and driving Mercedes Benz and jet setting in private planes wearing gold aviator glasses listening to iPhones through Beats Audio headphones and carrying Louis Vitton bags....and...talking about how rich they are...yes that is total BS. THAT is wrong. But that's almost no different from the Priest or Pastor driving in his Caddilac wearing gold rings, chains and watches.
Let's not get hung up on the food Monks are offered, they gotta eat, and if someone wants these Monks to eat well? So be it. What we should be getting hung up on is missuse of donated money. There should be a little accountability, even for Monks and people of the cloth.
