I used to ask these questions in some other topics, but a Laotian guy recommended me to set the new topic. Then please answer me ....................................
I have a lot of questions to ask. First, I want to declare that I am a chinese Thai, who was born in Thailand and now studies in the US.
1) Indeed, I know that Laotians in general do not like Thais because some of Thais looked down on Laotians, which I think it's true. In the same times, Laotian like Vietnamese more than Thais. However, when I asked my native Vietnamese classmate about this, he said that Lao is just a small country like Cambodia and a lot of Laotians living in Lao-Vietnam border try to learn Vietnamese and work in Vietnam. That's why I think that some of Vietnameses may look down on Laotian too despite the closed relationship between the governments of Laos and Vietnam. However, I never heard of Laotian blaming on Vietnamese. >>>>>> Do you believe that some Vietnamese look down on Laos like Some of Thais too ? Do you think that Vienam is your good friend (in views of people to people level) ?
2) I used to contact with some Laotians who studied in Thailand and who went to the Phillipines for training. They blamed Thailand that Thai people are selfish and cunning, Thai society is bad and full of prostitutions and Thai police used a dog raping a woman and etc. >>>>>> So if you think that Thai society is immoral and bad, why do you come to Thailand for study, and watch a lot of Thai movies, series and song ? Why are you stick with the entertainment product from a bad and chaotic society like Thailand.
3) A laotian once said to me about Pra Keo "the statue of emerald Buddha". They said Thailand took it from Laos, which is really true, But please dont forget that Laos (Lanxang) took it from Northern Thailand (Lanna). I know that Lanxang and Lanna are relatives. However, I do not think that Lanna people were willing to lose the emerald Buddha to Laos. >>>>>>> What are Laos feeling if the emerald Budhha were still in Laos, and Lanna people said that Laos took the emerald Buddha from Lanna?
4) Some Laotians still misunderstand about the song "Lao Duang Deun" was compsed by a Laotian, which is not true. This song was composed by a Thai prince whose marriage with a Lanna princess was prohibited. Have you ever heard about it before ?
5) I do not know why some Laotain still look down on Thailan, and say like Thailand steal Laotian culture, and made money from it. Moreover, they said that most Thai people's ancestors were from Lao. I think this is not the point to complain, because in that past, Tailand, Lao, Myanmar and Combodia had wars. That's why there were some movement of people. For example. Myanmar army sweep Thai people to Myanmar. Moreover, ther were a cultural exchange between these countries. You can find Pra-Dak, Larb, Tum-Mug-Hoong and CAN (a music instrument) in north eastern thailand and Cambodia. >>>>>>>>>>>> Why do you still insist on this blame on Thailand.
6) last question, I do not know why Laotian still think that Thai people in general look down on Isaan people. This attitude is outdated. actually, my hometown is Chiyaphum, one of Isaan province. I can say that most Isaan people do not want to join back with Lao as a united country. A lot of Isaan people accompished in entertainment industry >>>>>>> a comedian, an actor and a singer >>>>>>> even the winner of the STAR 5 is also an Isaan people.
7) A lot of Laotian said that Thai society has a lot of problems, and not good to live. why dont you look back to Lao society, which I think there are also a lot of problems: Human and drug trafficking and corruption and education and public health. Why do you still insist blaming on Thai society?

If you are Chinese Thai, you probably don't feel to much pain about Burmese burned down Siam Ayothaya til they have to move Capital to Krung Thep Mahanakorn.
Lane Xang was burned by Thai not once but twice. What would you feel if you're Laotian? And not only leave the history behind and go on. Some Thai people keep saying over and over of how proud they are about their victory in the past to Laos. If you have a wounded, amd someone is trying to scratch it open all the time. Do you think that wound would heeled? Oh...I would say 99% of Laotian can reads, write, speak Thai. That is why the effect or reaction is highly and immediately.
Lao and Vietnam, I wouldn't say there is no conflict in between. But, because the barrier language Laotian don't know what they have been badmouth to them. So, it doesn't effect that much????
You seem to know quite a bit of Lao History. Don't even talk about the Emerald Buddha and was belong to LANNA before. You have to go back farther in Lane Xang History and you will find out yourself what was the true story.
I personally thanks to you for bring up the sudject about Lao & Thai. If you like to know more, you should open a new topic to discuss. Or you might be got stormy by some folks in this website as well.
It is not know for sure when the Emerald Buddha was carved however judging from the appearance and style one could conclude it was carved in Northern Thailand not much earlier than the fifteenth century. On the other hand, the Emerald Buddha, which is in an attitude of meditation, looks much like some of the Buddha images of Southern India and Sri Lanka. This attitude of meditation has never been popular in other Thai carvings of Buddha images so one might assign the origin to one of the aforementioned countries.

The King then decided to move the image to Chiangmai. He sent out an elephant three times to bring the Emerald Buddha to Chiangmai but each time the elephant ran to the city of Lampang instead of returning to Chiangmai. The King thought that the spirits guarding the Emerald Buddha wanted to stay in Lampang so it was allowed to remain there until 1468. Then the new King, King Tiloka, had the Emerald Buddha brought to Chiangmai. According to Chronicles the image was installed in the eastern niche of a large stupa at Wat Chedi Luang.

After the King died in 1551 the prince, at the age of fifteen, was invited to become the King of Chiangmai. In 1564 King Chaichettha was chased out of Luang Prabang by the Burmese army of King Bayinnaung and took the Emerald Buddha with him to his new capital of Vientiane. The Emerald Buddha remained there for 214 years.
When King Rama I was still a general during the Thonburi period in 1778 he captured the town of Vientiane and brought the Emerald Buddha back to Thailand. With the establishment of Bangkok as the capital, beginning the Rattanakosin period and the Chakri Dynasty, the Emerald Buddha became the palladium of Thailand and has been here ever since. On the 22nd of March 1784 the image was moved from Thonburi to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Two seasonal costumes were made for the Emerald Buddha by King Rama I, one for the summer season and one for the rainy season. King Rama III (1824-1851) had another costume made for the winter season. The ceremonial changing of the costumes takes place three time a year and is done by his Majesty the King.
According to legend, the Emerald Buddha was created in India in 43 BC by Nagasena in the city of Pataliputra (today Patna). The legends state that after remaining in Pataliputra for three hundred years, it was taken to Sri Lanka to save it from a civil war. In 457, King Anuruth of Burma sent a mission to Ceylon to ask for Buddhist scriptures and the Emerald Buddha, in order to support Buddhism in his country. These requests were granted, but the ship lost its way in a storm during the return voyage and landed in Cambodia. When the Thais captured Angkor Wat in 1432 (following the ravage of the bubonic plague), the Emerald Buddha was taken to Ayutthaya, Kamphaeng Phet, Laos and finally Chiang Rai, where the ruler of the city hid it. Cambodian historians recorded capture of the Buddha statue in their famous Preah Ko Preah Keo legend. However, some art historians describe the Emerald Buddha as belonging to the Chiang Saen Style of the 15th Century AD, which would mean it is actually of Lannathai origin.
Closeup of Emerald Buddha in summer season attire
Historical sources indicate that the statue surfaced in northern Thailand in the Lannathai kingdom in 1434. One account of its discovery tells that lightning struck a pagoda in a temple in Chiang Rai, after which, something became visible beneath the stucco. The Buddha was dug out, and the people believed the figurine to be made of emerald, hence its name. King Sam Fang Kaen of Lannathai wanted it in his capital, Chiang Mai, but the elephant carrying it insisted, on three separate occasions, on going instead to Lampang. This was taken as a divine sign and the Emerald Buddha stayed in Lampang until 1468, when it was finally moved to Chiang Mai, where it was kept at Wat Chedi Luang.
The Emerald Buddha remained in Chiang Mai until 1552, when it was taken to Luang Prabang, then the capital of the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang. Some years earlier, the crown prince of Lan Xang, Setthathirath, had been invited to occupy the vacant throne of Lannathai. However, Prince Setthathirath also became king of Lan Xang when his father, Photisarath, died. He returned home, taking the revered Buddha figure with him. In 1564, King Setthathirath moved it to his new capital at Vientiane.[1]
In 1779, the Thai General Chao Phraya Chakri put down an insurrection, captured Vientiane and returned the Emerald Buddha to Siam, taking it with him to Thonburi. After he became King Rama I of Thailand, he moved the Emerald Buddha with great ceremony to its current home in Wat Phra Kaew on March 22, 1784. It is now kept in the main building of the temple, the Ubosoth.
Specially Thai from Bangkok who are rich and racist and own and control business and politic that they are the one who make fun of Esan people and Lao people who are poor. They have done that instantly on the TV or newspaper while Lao people try to forget and forgive the past. If the Thai government could issue ban or fine the people who called Ai Lao or stop making fun or joke of Esan and lao people who are not well and less advenge and poorer than them . Then time will heal and for sure lao people are willing to forgive and become good neighbor because Thai is the number one investors in Laos and help Laos a lot with almost every things. If Thai economy is bad so do Lao economy. Lao people don't hate all Thai only the one who are racist. The history that Lao people had been betrayed by Lao people and then the Siamese took advantage from Laos. Lanxang and Siam supposed to be ally fight against Burma but Siam make lan Xang to become colony when Lan Xang was weak that was betray between ally and we supposed to be brother from Khun Bou lom fought against the Han Chinese . Any way Lao people forgive the Siamese but Lao people will not forget what the Siamese had done to Lan Xang ( Laos). Please, it is useless to win some Lao people in the web sit. I have many Thai friend and they respect me and I respect them as well. Thai government must tell the some Thai who are racist against the Lao people to stop making fun and look down on Lao people . The action show by talking and showing in Thai TV or paper and between boss and Esan employees in the US there is the law against racist and discrimination but I am not sure that Thailand have that laws.

A half baked history. that is what contained in Thai history books being taught at school to Thai children. It is based on the propagation of chauvinism and nationalism that twisted and omitted many truths. This is why Thailand has bilateral issue with many of its neighbors.

In 16th Century, Chiangmai was belong to ANACHACK CHIANGTHONG( Luangprabang) totally was ANACHACK LANE XANG. Saysethathiraj has to bring PRA KEO with him when he return to Luanpabang because it's belong to Laos. King Rama 1 of Siam was looter, he stumped Vientiane 2nd times and stole PRA KEO from Laos in 1778. PRA KEO is suppose to be in Vientiane not in Bangkok. We'll get it back to Vientiane some day for sure.

I think I still need the proof about Lao history. You know in academic world you must have proof when you want to generalize something. If you do not have proof, no one believe in what you are saying. This is true and an international standard.
This topic will be closed soon , please don't bring the topic like this, it is never going to be resolved because Siam had done to her neighbor not such as Lan Xang but Malaysia in the soutern part of Thailand and Cambodia as well.
Lao don't hate all Thai only some rich and racist persons who control the media and newspaper and make jokes and fun of Lao people while Lao people try to forgive and forget the past. Lao also know that Thai is the number one investor in Laos and most of products in Laos are coming from Thailand even vaccine and food and medicine.

Then, show us the real history.
Which Thai history do you want me to poke a hole at? The authentication of the Ramkhamhaeng Stele? The fake and absurd history of the Thao Suranaree? The Preah Vihear Temple conflict? The so called popular Siamese history of Lost Territories?
Don't take my words for it, check out a couple of link below:
I have often hear many Thais say that the Lao has carted off the Emerald Buddha to Lanxang in the same manner that King Thaksin has attacked Vientiane and looted the city of its treasures and people. Of course, that is what is they read in Thai history.
I saw a picture hung at the National Museum in Chaingmai of the coronation of Chao Settathirath as the new king of Lanna because of he was offered the crown due to his heredity to the Chiangmai's throne. Absolute monarch in those day, pretty well did as they please, so when there were contenders to the Lanxang throne after his father died, Chao Sethathirath, hurried back to Lanxang along with the emerald buddha and his court to defeat his rivals for the throne. The result was, he became king of Lanna and Lanxang at same time. While he was in Xiengthong, the madarins in Chiangmai were not happy with a young king so they invited Chao Mekuti from the Shan Kingdom as the new ruler of Chiangmai. Chao Settathirath did not give up his claim to Lanna and his attempt to reassert his claim was unsuccessful. Later Lanna, Shan and Ayuthaya kingdoms all fell to the Burmese. During Chao Settathirath's time, Lanxang was the only large Tai Kingdom to successfully resisted Burmese invasion.

If you are opened enough you may see that Every countries made history for their own benefit, not for the other countries' benefit.
Just want to see a proof from Lao side directly regarding to the Emerald Buddha.

Thank you !!!!
I am sure this topic will be closed very soon, there are somethings that I would like to say here:
1/. This bloody Chinese-Thai guy needs to learn more about the his story of how Laos lost Isaan to Siam.
2/. What is the percentage of his blood that contains Isaan blood, seek to lean about H.E Tiang Sirikhan, Sopha, these people used to be the leaders of Isaan who fought for Isaan independent.
3/. The main issues in Thailand today is caused by Fc n Chinese-Thai like Sonthi Limthong kul.
4/. Lao pelple have negative perception about Thailand becaushey are unlucky to have the dust of wind like you as their polulation.

At that time, Lao became one of Siam states. So it should brought back to the capital city of Siam. It's true right?
Anyway, we should study of both side history. Some Lao history books may not true in story. Some Thai history books may also not true in story. We don't know it at least you were at that time, or back to that time and watch it by your own eyes
