What is the number of Engineers in Laos?

I read through many topics here, and found out that most topics are related to socio-economic development. Jealous of Combodia? 4 Asian Tigers? (Korea? Hong Kong?Singapore? Japan? Yeah, don't forget, Engineers are the pillar to provide support infrastructure. So, how many Engineers does Laos have? and why foreign aids or scholarship like to invest in Management and Business while leaving out Engineering ones?

Sangsinsay, as many of you probably know that it is not easy to obtain a B.S. or Master in any of engineering fields.  I'm not trying to knocks those whom major in business or management, but those degrees aren't as hard to achieve as engineering degree.

As far as answering your question, I don't know the number of lao engineers currently working in Laos.

As i know there were over 200 Lao engineers who graduated from Soviet, Germany and other communist countries but some of them are working for foreign company, some running their own business.

As far as I know, Laos has substantial number of good Engineers who graduated from local and overseas institutes. I cannot specify the number either that is why I ask your opinion in case if you have some knowledge. Our students are outstanding and these talented students every year are recruited by overseas foreign scheme to study in abroad, and when they graduate, local market could not provide comparative job for them and end up working in foreign markets. I think many of these Engineers like to return and work in Laos to help Laos to develop. I listened from seniors who graduated from Locomotive Engineering (I don't know exactly in English but in Laos people call Ua Lod Fai", they could not find jobs and end up working in other sector instead. Status of Lao Engineers should have enhanced.

Oh that is good news! Could I ask you a question. Im not sure it you will know the answer but you might have some idea. Im just curious if there has been an area specific environmental impact studies regarding the construction of the different dams in Laos?

If you know are they published? And if they do, would you be able to provide some links. Thank you!

I know one Laotian physicist specialist in atom and nuclear is working for Cern because they pay him a lot of money, he was a student from the US . Hopefully he could come back and help Laos. His family and relatives are still living Laos.

I disagree, there is just very very limited job opportunity for such kind of professional job in Laos. and If there is one, pay is not as competitive as other countries or foreign agencies are offering. So Laos do not maximally benefit from those professionals. What Khontakek said was true. Many skilled professionals you will find working for a different job or even odd jobs, because thats the available job opening or that is where they can receive better pay.

Engineers, what a life. Study so hard and unfortunately it is even harder to find job nowadays. I used to ask one of my friends who finished study from Civil Engineering course at NUOL. What do you do? then he replied with "Dust Analysis". I was interested that he is doing research about dust, then with a reserved smile, he said "I was walking to find a job and everyday I walked through road with dust and cloudy pollution, so concurrently I analyse dust at the same time unconsciously ^^. I contacted him again after a long while and he is out of job, got married and push for making babies.

By the way, I am a Civil Engineer. I have good counterpart from Cambodia convinced me to work in Cambodia as pay is incentive, attractive, and much better than those paid in Laos.

All the best our Engineers and wish good time is coming for your roles.

webmaster, where did you go to school for your environmental engineering degree?  are you done with school?  Laos can definately use your expertise in this field.  They need to stop buring the woods, dumping all the trash in the MeKong River, and those raw sewage is big problem in Laos.

Laos government should make a better policy from the Chinese and foreign companies must and hire and train Laotian for jobs in any project such building stadium , dams , bridges and road , new casino, new building...etc. There is no excuse for the Lao government not to do so.

Oh by the way.... I'm currently working as "Sanitation Engineering Position", simply mean I clean toilets and restrooms for living. Hahahahahhaha  Oh well, it pays the bills, it is not too bad though.  They even provide me a computer to surf the net during my break time.

This man must miss his home country or maybe he misses "phoo sao lao". Wait for your home return and your valuable experience from Singapore to develop Laos.

Watches are a beautiful thing. Certainly, they tell us the time - but aren't they so much more than that? replicas watches Through their watches, a person can express so much, and in a way it could be said:replicas watches Show me your watch and I'll tell you who you are.
