Th Westerners categorize people in Lanna region as Lao and a Lao king used to rule Chieng Mai because his mother was a princess of Lanna king. The Lao king was Sayasetthathirach.

Here is you again , Laotian have no intention to take back Chiang Mai or Esan and we are happy to have what we have today. Only preventing from losing any more land . Laos have never ever try to take any body land. . Why is there same old argument about who leaving who or who should join who? This is so tiresome. No Lao in their right mind would want to join Esan or Lanna. End of story.
There are so many urgent issues that Lao government and its people must tackle and needs to take care. There is no time for petty quarreling with neighboring country.

Laos is peaceful now and Lao people all over the world like it that way. biggrin

Lao people agree with you 100% but there are some Thai people who are panic and brought the conversation up. They are the one to monitor Laotian feeling and mind about Esan and Chiang Mai .

I totally with you. Actually, Thailand always give equal right to Thai Lanna and Thai Esarn. We can see that a Laotian people made this up first. Ciang Mai balong to Thailand, not Laos.

I was born in Nong Kai and I have both relatives in Nong Kai and Vientian and I am glad and proud to be Lao and be called Lao who eat stick rice and Pa dai.

If you call it "Pa dai" then you are not Lao nor Essan. You don't even know its proper name it's called "Pa dak". At first I thought you miss spell it but now I'm sure you are not Essan nor Lao.

Please have a look and listen careful the voice from Esan people like myself and also the voice from the people from the Muslim of the southern part of Thailand also.

Not to be second class citizen and to be treated fair and have equal opportunity and good justice if not , they would like to be independent like the Muslim in the southern part of Thailand. Esan never want to be part of Laos but part of Thailand unless have been treat as second class citizen like the Muslin.

I hate the overcrowded bangkok, but i enjoy the 'right sized" ChiangMai.... not to small, not too big, not too hot, not too cold, not too polluted but anyway modern, comfortable, convenient, typical and beautifull city.
