HRH Princess Sirindhorn voted China’s best international friend
BANGKOK, 9 December 2009 (NNT) – Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was voted online by Chinese people as one of the top ten best international friends of China, according to an online survey by a state-run China Radio International .
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was ranked second after Canadian Norman Bethune. Other eight best international friends of China are German John HD Rabe, Spanish Juan Antonio Samaranch, American Edgar Snow, British Dr Joseph Needham, Pole-turn-Chinese Israel Epstein, New Zealander Rewi Alley, Indian Dwarkanath S Kotnis, and Japanese Morihiko Hiramatsu.
The survey was conducted by the China Radio International to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the only one figure from the South East Asian region to receive the award and is among the few living awardees.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has visited China for 28 times in 28 years since 1981 and she has been playing a vital role in fostering the relationships between the two countries. She speaks fluent Mandarin, giving credit to Her Majesty the Queen for suggesting her to study Chinese. She also wrote many books narrating her journeys to China and other topics related to China.
