The only giant snake heads I know of are Older Lao-American men.  You can't fish them because they like to do fishing themselves.

Please try to find some fish info from this page in Laos http://www.mekonginfo.org/mrc_en/contact.nsf/0/818158CE61EE6BF1872569B5002C2D43/$FILE/publications.html or when you will be in Vientiane contact the office on that page may be could help you.
Mostly we could find fish family channidae around the country and at NamGum res. also but as I mention try to contact the concerned office in Vte for more detail.

I known some staff there, last of 2 years I went there and got helping from them for my research

I see, you are talking about this fish

I think the best way to get this information, is to go to the local market and ask the local where they got those fishes from.

my suggestion don't go to laos and catch our fish, leave fish for local people because fish is only our food that is easy to find... but you just take it as sport.. damn

i understand what you are saying....but i don't think you understand me....i do fish for sport..but i also fish for food too...if a Laos person went fishing with me ...and we caught fish i would gladly give my fish to him for food if they wanted it,or even better yet, we could go and cook the fish and have a meal together, that would be something i would like very much....Also fishing for sport or "catch and release fishing " is something that could bring alot of tourist dollars to Laos.
