I think its great to have Best Western open a Lao branch, not only to attract other companies, but to also put some pressure in the market. If the Best Western in Laos is as good as the ones in the US, then the big local hotels will have a lot of improving to do. Hopefully quality and service goes up, and price goes down!
Best Western Union? I never heard of this kind of hotel chain before. This is my first time to notice. I knew just Starwood Hotels (Westin, Le Meridien, Sheraton, W Hotel, Luxury Collection, Loft and St. Regis), Accor hotel chains

Some comment above me, you may right and wrong at the same time. Yes, we do have lots of hotels and GH (guesthouses) which mostly owned by our local peoples. If Big international hotels come to build it in Laos more and more and more. The tourist have more choices to stay but I just concern about the small hotels which owned by Laos people may go bankrupt as can not compete with the big international hotel chains then....it may come to the end of the local business. The hotel that we owned become smaller and smaller

best western......honestly i would rather stay at a laos owned guest house..these chain hotels have no soul!!!! I realize that the laos people need progress...but are not like this!
i agree with you...it will bring some jobs...but what makes Laos so exotic to visitors is the lack of almost anything western...just don't Laos to get caught up in westernizing itself....don't want to see it become Thailand...i like Thailand...but i prefer Laos for the reasons above....
yeah..the last thing i want to do in Laos is to stay in a best western hotel with western facilities....i mean i didn't travel half way around the world to stay at a hotel i could find down the road in the US...eco-tourism style hotels are the way to go...the answer to Laos needing jobs does not lye with chain hotels and china...
i leave for Laos on February 5th... i will be there for 42 days...i spend as little time in the major cities as i have to. in fact some places i ended up they had not seen westerners in years....i hate to say it but sometimes westerners ruin places....so i tend to try to get away from them..(although i am from the us)
i am actually looking for families i could do home stays with(preferably outside the city) i would love to stay with a family for a while and help them out in exchange for me learning about them personally and culturally...
