Lao people lack of manner in using mobile phone
Permalink

Mobile phone is now an invisible tool for communication in Laos. Seeing young students in primary school using their own mobile phone is now very common.

There are both good and bad things in using, but I want to touch upon only the bad things i found in Laos recently.

1. Many people lack of good manners in using mobile phone. They dont set their mobile phone to manner mode, and speak on telephone in a meeting places. Even worse was that I found many people using mobile phone in the patient rooms in the hospital.

2. There is no promotion on what is the right manner in using mobile phone in the public, for example on tv, radio, newspaper, etc...

3. Many people talk too much on their mobile phone, they dont think about how much they consume the money of their parents, and they dont know how to make their conversation short or make a conclusion in their mobile phone.

4. Young students could not concentrate on their study, they think it is a fashion, and use it to date their boyfriend, girlfriend. This can lead to the misbehave of the students in the future.

I will continue next time.

Wait until the minivan arrives in Laos, then you have moms yelling at kids in the back while talking on phone and switching lanes on interstate highway at 120km an hour.

People cannot communicate to each other by mobile phone while they are in public place, train, subway ... seems not good for business people, isn't it?

Japanese don't use mobile phone in public area like hospital , subway (especially crowded train)

because it might be annoying to other people and radio waves from mobile phone can cause interference with heart decease patients who using heart pacemakers.

sign in japan, ask you to turn off your mobile phone.

in the train

not only in japan, there is a sign like this in taipei's train too.

The question is not "the right manner to use it"... the question is rather "when should i avoid using my mobile phone because it's inapropriate"

Do not use it when you can disturb other people with your noise or even just the ringing noise if someone call you (meeting, having lunch/diner, cinema, church or any place where people go for quietness/peace...). Use silent mode if you are waiting for an important call in such situation, and go out to answer the call.

Do not use it (even for SMS or other app) when you have to listen to someone (meeting, classroom....) because this disturb your attention and make other people around you loose time (wait for you).

Do not use it in an hospitals (mobiles waves can disturb medical equipements).

Do not use it to call/disturb your friends/family if you have nothing important/interesting to tell them

Do not use it to call someone for profesionnal purpose if you know the person you call is in Holidays, or if it's late in evening... or keep this use for extreme urgent situations.
