Our Lao leaders are very short sighted. This wetland is an invaluable asset for our future generations. I have nothing against China town but why can't they just build it some where else? Plus it's so not right to have a China town next to our national symbol. Imagine building a China town in New York Central Park.
Some of our leaders when it comes to making a deal with the Chinese Not only they are short-sighted but they also have Nothing Left on the right and Nothing Right on the left of their heads .

Honestly, if I were to negotiate with the Chinese or Vietnamese in securing investments for any projects that require laborers for trivial duties with the exception to management team members, engineers, designers. Ect, I would attach a clear-cut provision or clause that Laotians are first to have the job and I am willing to be flexible on the term. I would probably agree to 20% of their own imported labor and 80% of local Laotians. If they were so reluctant to my proposal, I would not cave in to the pressure or the unreasonable demand. Instead, I would ask for more times to reconsider before compromising but in the meanwhile, I would be busy approaching others such as South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, or other potential candidates who might be more considerate toward my people and my country. Even if they want all the deals to be comprised of 40% of their labors but we know 60% of Laotians would have the job. I will keep in mind that my people are always first before I will be flying back to Vientiane and disseminating good news for them. These damn Chinese and Vietnamese are too selfish. I would guarandamntee they will not bully their way out easily on any business matters. We need to cope with each other in a fairly manners and by that I mean we'll win some and lose some. However, if we allowed ourselves to be corrupted and bought off, it would be tougher the next time when we need to renegotiate on something and no doubt the pressure would be mounting because they want to settle for more not less since they got it the first time.

Thats the way business should be negotiated. Its a win-win situation. There are always risks but the challenge is how to turn them to your advantage. There is room for compromise but none for complacency.
How about building ChinaTown in Savannakhet city too? :) Since that's my parents home town and many other Laos top leader are from there also. I wish to hear news development in Savannakhet City of there progress beside casino.
Nothing wrong of building the China town in any part of Laos as long as it would not cause the trouble to the local people and hurt Laos in the long run politically just like xinjiang and Tibet. The discrimination and racist between the rich Chinese and poor local Laotian in the future generation to come. We would like to protect Lao ethnicity and culture don't want to become the minority of our own country or be extincted. Laos is not belonged to Lao people but the government and some group of powerful people in the government who made all the decision for all Laotian regardless the majoirty of the Lao people like it or not.

Maybe Laos leader is either part Chinese or part Vietnamese ? If not', he could have been signing this deal with a gun to his head that's what he came out very short with this deal!!!

I will recommend new china town can build at southern road 13 th where there are empty rice filed and it should be a new city if china wants to do it. the problem is china decides where is the best location for development, Lao Government just follows the order.
Try to look back of history of Tibet 50 years ago about 60 millions Han Chinese have been settled in Tibet and also 100 million Han Chinese were settle in xinjiang and the local people became the minority that it will be happening to Laos, to build the China town and Chinese university are not the problems but what the million Han Chinese will be settled in Laos that is the problem.
Laos have only 6.5 million people so the Chinese could send 20 millions Chinese in Laos in less then 10 years so Vietnamese could also sent 5 millions Vietnamese. Hundred of thousands Laotian go to Thailand to work every year or try to leave Laos to go to the first world countries every day. So Laos is belonged to the Chinese and Vietnamese. Most of the Chinese and Vietnamese will have dual citizenship in Laos . Lao nork has disadventage to open business against the Vietnamese and the Chinese .

Ideally, if you think about it, China shoots two birds with one stone. We pretty much agreed to all demands according to their own terms; aside from leasing them the land, they can also move their people to settle in Laos in staggering numbers.Nearly all investments in Laos though in billions of dollars, but in reality the money goes back to their own people because all workers are Chinese.Negotiation takes time for mutual benefits and that's a universal practice instead of rushing to consummate on any deals. How about after the resettlement of Chinese in Laos is fully realized, will we allow them to negotiate under whose jurisdiction they are subject to? That would be a complete slap on Laos' judiciary sovereignty if we allow that to happen. In addition, I wonder if Laos has ever publically declared its balance sheet during the process of balancing its budget and truthfully stated its national debts to other countries so Lao people would know where to stand.
China is well known to short women due to the practice of gender preference and the one-child policy; ordinary Chinese men surely would love to have Laotian brides especially those who own a piece of land. They will keep their China dolls to themselves though but they would also want our Laotian dolls. Can we blame them?

China town is not that bad to have one just would like the government to think about the future to be careful about allowing how many Chinese will be settled in Laos because we don't want to be the minority in our own country. As we know Laotian is multiplying very slow unlike Chinese and Vietnamese ,they are multiplying like rabbits.

This is what happen when you depend on others to do things and paid for you. You will ending up be their little bitch for awhile. It is part of a pay back deals. Since you can't pay them back with $$$, they will take something else whether is land or natural resources.
Laos has to start somewhere. Right now they are depending on help. There's nothing wrong with that. A lot of countries started out that way.
Of course there's nothing wrong for Laos to be helped as long as there's no string's attach?

Laos owe a lot of of countries' money . Laos owe Vietnam , south Korea, Japan , Australia, Thailand , Russia and the world bank which are the American billionaires owned most of the stocks and control by the American. So declare bankruptcy and live with bad credit and without China investment and let ask for help from the west like Georgia and other eastern European countries. Laos don't have to agree with every Chinese and Vietnamese demand and pay them in time when Laos has the money. Now the government just keep making more loans and the money keep disappearing and more debt for the poor people have to lose their farm and their land and that is bad but worst just be more careful of millions of Chinese and Vietnamese are settled in Laos and make sure they learn Lao and Lao culture and loyal to Laos like Thai Chinese. Chinese school and University should not be allowed to build in Laos. Every citizen must be taught Lao history and loyal to Lan Xang like Siam have taught to Thai Chinese and Esan.

People is people and also human is human it doesn't matter what race if the government could control them and make very strict laws all citizen children in Laos must learn Lao language and culture and teach them to loyal to Laos and not allow the Chinese and Vietnamese school in Laos but Lao school that would help to prevent racist and discrimination in the future. Los language first and English as second language because English is international and universal language in the world.

True! people are people and human are human if you don't have a strong government with a strong foundation then you're only set yourself up for disasters that's all. Just look at America for example, even they have powerful government they're still taking precautions about the large number of people entering their country.

I will definitely make those selfish, inconsiderate Viets walk along Hochiminh Trail back to Hanoi where they belong. As far as the Chinese is concerned, I will tell them go home, go sell Peking ducks for a living. Other countries can do business in Laos.

Without Vietnamese and the Chinese Laos will be starved .Laos depends on Vietnamese for almost every things . Sorry Thailand also that Laos depends on .Now Laos needs billions of dollars from the Chinese. How could Laos turn the money $$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!! down. Just let them have some land and allow few millions Chinese to settle in Laos and let they build the China town and Chinese university for their Children in the future that isn't too bad.

Japan provides more aid than China and Vietnam to Laos but has less political influence. Why?

quit complaining already... Have you ever heard...if you can't beat them then joy them. Stop wasting your breath.. Worry about Chinese and Vietnamese take all the land? Fine..then go back to Laos and buy some land and put the deed under your cousins name or something. You are afraid that Chinese and Vietnamese won't hire laotian? O.K then plant something in your land and hire your own relatives to do it for you.
