Are you guys gonna wait until you see the day where all of you became minority in your own land?  or indirectly got kick out from your own land?disbelief
Just do yourself a big favor and save those "well meaning advices" for those struggling Lao-American children. Trust me, they need it more than we do. As for us becoming a minority in our own Country, you need not worry about us, yourself are already a minority. Do you see the difference? You're currently a minority and we're not even anywhere near your current predicament. You worry about yourself first, ok!

Stop pretending all is well while your children are struggling to keep up with their peers in the field of education making the right choice in life.
You are sadly mistaken, there are only a small number of us that are struggling in the U.S in comparison to more than 5 millions of Laotians in Laos  and as for your info as I'm a Lao American I don't feel bad or sad to be a minority in someone else's land at least it's better than in your own land. You're an only  IDIOTin the world who could except this kind of trade off. Lao Americans are not the only minority in the U.S.A. there're millions of other races and we all have the right to be any thing that we wanted to be in life , the sky's is the limit. As a start the right to be employed, the right to vote and chose our own president, to get educations, to get health care benefits, etc...these are of the few which are more than I can say about your right which you have none and all the Lao pdr who wishes that they could have the same rights as those foreigners and the illegals who had just came to live on your land and they have more rights than you!! the owner of your land and so there is nothing for me to worry about the children in America compare to the children in Laos who had to go to Thailand for a very low paying jobs or prostitutions and being treated less of a human when they should be in school unlike Lao Americans' children they all have to go to school until they reached 18 or 19 yrs of age under the law for "  No children left behind or ED.Gov.smile
---------------------------------------------------------------

I'll have to call you out on this as well. I remain much more concerned about the Lao population in the US rather than in Laos. We are among the poorest academically performing races, as well as one of the lowest financially. At least in Laos they have an excuse, and the only place to go is up. You mention all the rights, freedoms, and programs we have in America, and it makes it even more embarrassing of the lack of success within Lao American students.

There are some successful  Laotian. Please , stop insulting Lao American . As I said that I normally  will never get involve  in trash talking  unless about race. There is no other race is better than the other race. My nephew is  a doctor . I am well educated , comfortable  and my finance is fantastic. I could never make it in Laos. I could not help myself to feel bad for the poor Lao kids in the countryside  and remote area . For the Lao American and they have the opportunity if they don't make it in life and want to stay on the welfare and  food stamp  program for the rest of their life so it is their own faults . So let try to help the poor kids in Laos who really need help . No need try to insult the Lao American who loves and cares and concerns about the Chinese and the Vietnamese who will be the majority and rich and racist between poor and low class Lao people.
You are very logical about this and unfortunately some of us here not including myself just can not comprehend this kind of concern like yours and mine comment the one that's above DeatHept an indecisive person. It will take 100 decades or when pigs fly for them to finally have a light bulb moment!

I know that you wouldn't care because you are not the kids who are living in the countryside and go to school which don't have enough toilets and they have to go to the bush or river or dig a hole to s hit in it. Open your eyes and walk around Vientiane or any where there are plenty of Chinese and Vietnamese. How do the Chinese think about the poor kids and poor people in Laos.  Laos is still Lao's country but Laos will be owned by the Chinese. More Chinese and Vietnamese are coming  every day, there are more Laotian are going to work in Thailand every day because they could not be employed in Laos. Only good for the rich and powerful people in the government who have good living but for the poor there are no future and no hope but to be farmer and cheap labors in the streets. Thank God that I am lucky to compare to those poor kids and poor people.

Who ever started this topic obviously can't read in English. The test was conducted on Asian groups in the state of California. So it can't represent all Lao American as a whole. For those who don't know California is not a country. If the test was done country wide. Then it would be a different story.

You're too dumb to understand any thing , because you don't take time to examine
what people are really saying before you jumped the conclusion and don't you dare accusing me or any of Lao Americans of not caring for the poor kids in Laos ok as we were not the one who rubbed them of foreign aids and trying to take their lands and sell it to the Chinese & Vietnamese masters so they can open up all this businesses and hire only their people and pocketed the profits!no

You are out of your mind! Considering the fact that we are only here 30yrs ago I said we are doing extremely well. There are more and more kids graduating from University and Major in various fields at professional level.

Genius,

Why are  you comparing yourself to us Third World people? Are you that insecure and low self-esteem? Lao PDR and the US is in a different league.

You should compare yourself to your own peers, your fellow Americans! Obviously  you guys are at the bottom rung of the American economic indicator.

If you're happy being a minority in a foreign land than that's your problem but leave us out of it, for we don't have anything to with you Foreigners. Stop meddling in Laos internal affairs.

Genius,

How can you help those poor Lao kids in Laos? While you can't even help your fellow Lao-American kids, whom have all the necessary resources for success.

If your house is on fire, the last thing on your mind is to worry about someone else's house.

There are approximately 9% of Lao-American with a Bachelor or Higher. What is 9% of 200,000? Why don't you do the math, since you're the self proclaimed "well educated" one in here.

The Importance of Education for Mobility and Support

Many Laotian arrived without a written language, little exposure to wage labor, and very little experience with formal schooling. Because of these pre-existing conditions, many lack the type of skills that today's workforce requires and instead, settle for low-skill jobs and as a result, they must work two jobs to make ends meet. One major consequence is that the children are left at home with little or no supervision.

These children consequently suffer academically, because help is unavailable to them in their home environments. While some students have the ability to succeed, unfortunately not all students have the resources available to them to achieve higher learning -- lack of financial resources remain a major challenge. Another current problem in the community is the high rate of Laotian American youth going to prison, reportedly the highest rate among all Southeast Asian youth. Many reasons can be cited for this problem, but lack of parental involvement is a major factor.

I'm just letting you know there less of Lao Americans to worry , but more of Lao Nai to worry and you got that right! we are in a different league and the insecurity and low self-esteem must have came from your end because it is quite embarrassing isn't it that you can't be a majority and the boss in your own county and more over you can't even compete with the illegals who are suppose to be the minorities in your country and are about to take over your land and make profits while they are on your land for as long as they want instead of you! and not only you will become a minority in your own country, and maybe even in Thailand as well since all the jobs were taken by the illegals , I surely hate to be in your position Mr so call GENIUS.

Genius,

You should compare yourself to your own peers, your fellow Americans! Obviously  you guys are at the bottom rung of the American economic indicator.

It is not that unusual that a minority will have some difficulty of competing with the owner of their land ( American ) who's been here for more than 100s of yrs but it doesn't stop any of us from becoming a successful person and have as much rights to be employed side by side with the Americans ( majority) in America and you on the other hand as a majority can't even stand your ground and compete with the illegals that have just came to live in your country (Laos)  for less number of years than you! that's a shame. ashamed
