The last emperor of China, Puyee didn't die in captivity.  He was free and lived as ordinary citizen.  You need to watch that movie again.

I think the interesting question is not "where do lao royal families live now?" but better "isn't it the right time now to allow the royals families to come back safely in Laos, not to get power and replace government of course, but just allow them to be some kind of 'cultural leaders and symbols'?".

Could it be time for laos to live in peace with it's history?
For goverment/communist party : Accept what come from the past (royals families...), their cultural richness, keep and vallue the best of their traditions
For royal families: accept that the politic rules of the country are now different, and that they don't have now any more political power.

it may be hard for some to conceptualize the idea of king and country as
a mean to inspire and give love to a motherland. confuse.gif

reconciliation can help with closure and the hope of finally uniting everyone,
for the land and country we all share some degree of love. confuse.gif

What Laos needs is strong, honest and good leaders who really care for their own people.

What will the royal families do for Laos? In my opinion the royal families may only divide Laos into future hierarchal society with so many princes and princesses, duchess and so on claiming their privileges, and the last thing I want to do is to crawl on the floor just to say hello to a little prince biggrin

yes, but as lao citizens, they should get at least the same rights as all lao people.
At the moment, they are still considered as ennemies by lao autorities and some "pro communist" lao people... so they cannot even get the same rights as any lao people and have to live overseas.

What i say is that they should be able to get just the same rights as any lao people, no more, no less...

Then, as lao citizen, if their knowlledge, richness, relashionship... give them oportunities to have a benefic action towar laos (like culture preservation...), that could be a good thing for everyone.

No one should not any more "crawl on the floor just to say hello to a little prince" ... if the royal families stilll expect this, or expect any kind of special treatment just because they are royal blood, ok, they should stay where they are and have nothing to do in Laos.

Laos is not any more a kingdom, but a republic (démocracy????)... so, ok we can argue (or not)  about they way this republic work and how things could be improved, but i think that now, it's not question of turnig back Laos into a kingdom... this is just something of the past.

There are three kingdoms of Laos's royal family that include family from Luangprabang, Vientiane, and Champasack. The royal family that from Luangprabang usually by the names of Savang, Sisavang, Vattana, Sayavong and so on. the one from Vientiane Souvanapouma, souphanouvong, sananikone and so on and the one from the south (Champasack) Boun oum, Na Champasack etc...All these members and their siblings are living throuhgout Laos, U.S.A. France, Thailand, Australia and Canada, some of them came out unnotice. the last family that came out by spreading the word of Laos's royal family was assasinated in Nongkhai (Thailand), but the real royal bloodline now are few of them and now live in France as normal people. we don't count those peoples who are from the 2nd,3rd or even 4th wife.

Well i know that some of the royal family has spread throughout the united states, living regular civilian lives and they choose to live that way because of so much that happened in the past, in the seventies that is. Some have even gone back to lao, on a humble note to visit. Some refuse to go back because they spit on the communists, yet they miss theyre homeland.

What gets to me is why are they not allowed to speak?????

very good comment.thank you! we all live in the era of the globalization and it is just the beginning of the 21th century. COMMUNIST has very good meaning for the mankind. the word COMMUNIST had just abused into the bad meaning of the American and his alliance in the last century! today no any countries in this world are campaign against this word!

The word and meaning of communist was not abused by Americans, it is being used as a disguise by the Laos dictators that are in power now.

Laos is a dictatorship in reality, communist by disguise, it's all a facade.

Vietnamese control Laos and take what they want, so do the chinese.

The only thing that protected Laos was the Lao people, the ones who had pride in being Lao, the royals, the people that had to flee their own home or be killed. Now no one protects Laos, it's being sold left and right, even women and children, natural resources, everything.

Laos doesn't have respect for themselves anymore, everyone looks down on them, all the neighboring countries treat them like dirt. Why you ask? Cause they killed their own people over greed and power.

Lao people don't need to unite, especially not with the commies. Lao people need freedom more than anything else. The freedom to choose their own life and future. How can that happen when the dictators aren't even Lao, their viets and they don't care about the Lao people. If you are Lao, would you not care about your own people? Would you not have pride in being Lao? Would you not want Lao people to prosper?

Only until Lao people are governed by Lao people again will there ever be hope.

Where do you really find freedom, biggrinbiggrinbiggrin just 2 days ago USA not allowed China to teach old chinese religions in america, Laos now is running by Laos people with an economy, even influenced by China, Thailand, Vietnam but at least not 100% relied on USA likes the Monarchist in the past ( The most secret place on earth ). Look at some video clip in youtube, Laos new year but playing all thai song. Only people from those families, used to sit, did nothing and had plenty dollars from USA ( They think we are stupid or something CIA word, big cigar in their mouth an party )

Anyone see China Russia Viet or Thai to say thing like CIA did, because despite Laos influenced by those countries but not totally kicked ass like it used to be. Like it or not it's History. We did not see Pathet Laos dragged Laos king out and chopped his head off like the french did.

This is 21st century and  all human being must be equal .No need monarchy and the dictators to rule the countries and to worship the other human being to be a living God. It is the time to change and it is the time for the people to rule the country , not only by one man ( King) or  by one group of people ( Dictator regime) who came to power without being elected by the people. The good old time monarchy ( King) or the new modern communist monarchy system like Kim Jong il and Fidel Castro and Raul Castro it is no good system and it is the failed system but too slow down the development and the progress of the countries. The leader and the government must be elected by the people in order to prevent the corruption or to have the minimum of the corruption and to improve for faster development of the country and the well being of the citizen. Just have a look at North Korea and south Korea, Singapore and Cuba . See the different between the dictators  and the leaders who are elected by the people developed their countries.

Yes HOMELESS PEOPLE IN USA in youtube, only in California when interview some of homeless queue up for free meal, they the poors and homeless beg for blankets and clothes, because they have to sleep in the open air, and streets.

Worship and remember also 2 different things. Worship likes you go in a church and pray and sit in there for hours it's worship. Remember just like any good person contributed to society and human kind you remember them. Like Isreal built Red Army ( Soviet Union ) on their land because for remember what Red Army has done to free the jews.

How about just type HOMELESS PEOPLE IN USA, they are miserable people. In youtube I don't post it here because it's a kind of your choice, your research, in those video showing poor people in USA they are just the same anywhere else. living a life like dogs as they said to the world. They can't eat HUMAN RIGHT, FREEDOM FREEDOM of Speech but have to look for throw away food in the bin to survive. The same everywhere, don't trying to mislead. when you want to show abount North Korea then put the HOMELESS PEOPLE IN USA next to it...a kind of everything on the table. that's mean you are a FAIR person otherwise you are form those families. CIGAR IN THEIR MOUTH AND PARTY.

Do you know the homeless people in the U.S. are not dying from starving like the North Korean people. You couldn't even compare the poor North Korean to the homeless in the U.S.

Are the poor in North Korean having enough food to survive? Are they have medical treatment to save their lives when they got sick or illness? Do they have freedom to protest their govt. to change thing to what they want?

In America, the homeless people have the right to protest their govt and have same right opportunity with all the Americans. They have enough food for survive and they have medical treatment when they got sick or illness.

The American people don't let American homeless are starving to death like North Korea govt. have done to its people, please understand that.
