If it was over 200 yrs ago then is YES, at the present time I'm not sure about it.
You are wrong Lao and Esan people are really be parted when the French took control over Laos. and that means both Esan and Laos have been changed. Esan have been changed lean toward Siam and Laos have been changed lean toward Indochina. So please don't assume that you are the real Lao and Esan isn't. Noone are Lao like they used to be before the seperating anymore.

You know notthing then. Let me tell you something. Every parts of Thailand, people are mostly mixed with someother races. Chinese is mixed all over the country.
Esan people have dark skin due to the Khmer races but some are have fair skin because of the Vietnamese just like most Lao in Laos these day. and Chinese and Malay are also mixed in the south. There is no such thing as a pure race. Is this race thing can make you feel more secure?

Then Lao Esarn can't be either as your brothers or Pi-Nong, but just as friends and neighbors that's all.
I was born in Nong Kai and grew up in Vientiane . My father is Thai Esan and my mother is Lao from Vientiane. I have family and relative on both sides of the Mekong river . There are many families like my family on both sides of Mekong river for thousand of years. So my family is big and are both Thai citizen and Lao citizen. My father is Thai citizen and of course he is loyal to Thailand but I am Lao and of course I am loyal to Laos because I was educated and grew up in Laos . I am not sure about the other families who have both families and relatives both sides of the Mekong river that how would they feel. In the past there were a lot of high ranking government official in Laos who came from Esan during the royal government.
Esan, you can not deny that you are Lao blood. We are the same culture ,language, eat sticky rice. The true is true. I want Esan to be independance country, not Laos nor Thai, then I will be very happy, if I die I will close my eyes.

According to a french explorer who quoted as saying " the Thai government who took control of both right side and left side of laos deported lao people from the left side of the Mekong river to the right side and vice versa for the sake of the total better control of people and land so these day we are not sure who is who, the real lao people might be at the right side of the mekong river and the legend of the mixture of the race is not that true as one of us said earlier that the lao is mixed with viet to have a more clear complexion, it is wrong . I still have an very old saying : khmen bor khao lao bor darm it is to say that lao always had a clear complexion, no need to be mixed with viet blood . For the esan people I must say that I still have relatives there that I would like to visit in the songkane period but as the situation is not so good in thailand and at our side we still have the cope with the that luang market on fire yesterday, I prefer staying in our country to celebrate the songkane peemay ! wish every one good luck !
my mother and father side are living on the river bank of Mekong, no doubt we have relatives in thailand, they are lao but just live in different country , they were not very close with us after the communist took ver Laos in 1975 and Laos and thailand were very bad relationship on that time...and now we start to visit them and exchange, but it's not the same for new generation.
I know one thing for sure! After 200 yrs or more Lao blood in Lao Esarn have been diluted enough for the new generations don't feel that they even have Lao blood in them to fill their hearts and soul.
Laos people should come to acceptance of this kind reality so we will not lose any more people to Siam!
Do you count them as your brothers or Pi-Nong? Do you have relatives living there?
As for my self i do think that all '' thais'' are my cousins, it' don't matter where they are. North, South, East, West, they all my cousins. i don't care what other people think. it' hurt me inside to see khon thais fighting and killing each others.. hopefully, thing will settle down. and i am a lao 100% don't have any relative in thailand.
