"My last prediction was correct in the past. You see I was right all along Laos doesn't have enough people to sustain a long term labor within the country! That is why bring in the Chinese,Vietnamese help Laos grow instead of declining each year! Most Laonai leave Laos to Thailand or where ever there is jobs, but then again they suffer working under those country and the only ways of income. My uncle had to go work in Vietnam as a driver for some company, which makes me think why don't we offer jobs or create jobs for our own people???"
A recent by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has discovered that Laos is facing a major shortage of skilled labour, highlighting the possibilities for foreign workers to find work in the nation.
Researchers found that the furniture sector was hit hardest and needed 3,000 workers to make up for the deficit, while other expats may want to find employee benefits from the construction, infrastructure, mining, and vehicle maintenance sectors.
Lytou Bouapao, the deputy minister of education, said of the situation: "The objective of the Labour Market Assessment was to identify those sectors with the greatest skill deficits so that steps to address skill shortages could be targeted to sectors where they would have the greatest impact on the economy."
The ADB surveyed 817 companies in eight provinces of Laos across industries such as energy, clothing, tourism, agriculture, wholesale and retail and machinery.
Laos is celebrating its new year this month (April 11th), with Hillary Clinton congratulating the nation while commemorating the 55th anniversary of bilateral relations between the landlocked south-east Asian state and the US.

Nearly every country with a small to medium size population, including United States of America, faces a skilled labor shortage. Don't lose sleep over it, you can find a similar article for most other countries.

This is about Laos and how should Laos deals with the problems. So I suggest all Lao think about how should Laos develope with a less population. Since Laos is a developing country, we should think of the way on how to manage this shortage of labors.
if you compared to vietnam and china yes... firstly we have to increase the population , less than 7 millions of population and more than 80% is farmer, where are skilled lalours??

There's not much to think about. We have a small population of mostly farmers, a poor education system, and an overseas population in which the majority of them have no interest in the advancement of Laos.
Education is the only thing needed, and it will take time until we will be able to provide sufficient standards to educate and train our population. We are getting there.

Most educated Lao are obviously LaoNork. This also include Laotian,Hmong and other ethnic that fled from Laos/Vietnam war torn country. Also reason for LaoNork doesn't do business in Laos is because of corruption and lack of policy protection from the Government. LaoNork can't do much if the Government aren't doing enough to solve any kind of development. There haven't been a one single leader or business policy maker in Laos that have business minded people to work with internationally. Most LaoNork rather prefer Thailand then Laos for business and long term protection from a relied government that knows how to do bussiness in the international level.
And like I said before education is the main thing to create jobs and training every Lao citizen into a newer level. It is also an attitude and productive thought that can bring the wealth together and the whole country. I'm sorry but seem like Laos will be poor in the next 20 years and the only money income as a whole is from just the dam. I'm sure there more then just dam to sustain Laos, but how about the dividual Lao citizen with family to support??? You don't want you're daughter or your son to be a prosititute do you??? I'm sure many Lao will give up on there kids and say "who cares let them be."
My suggestion is that Laos need to open more and need more policy and protection on those bussiness people. And there should be a Law on it also, which can also help both bussinesss and the government of working together and build more knowledge to gain more interest from other country.
After I greduated my master degree (in 18 months) I will go back home to add one more skilled worker to my home country.
Make it happen soon. And if we have more Lao like you that actually show you're progress in Laos, more will come and also follow you're advice. It is about our people future and it is only us that can help our own people frist.
Only the top Laos's government can solve this problem. If they guarantee and protection for the foreign investers like other non communist countries. Alot of foreigner including Laonok will come and do business in Laos that will create more and more jobs for our own peoples that way we can keep the jobs and train for local peoples even though more percentage of lao population are farmers. The foreigners mostly likely to hire the local peoples, because it's cheap and understanding.
i think the Lao government although making great strides in opening up the country to outside investments they are not targeting the countries where there is the highest lao populations.
for example they are opening up more to china, thailand, vietnam, etc. etc... i can understand is because they want to become a land linked country but if they opened up business to countries such as U.S., Canada, France, Australia where there is the highest numbers of Lao nok you will see lao develop much a faster and better than the time predicted.
such as my fellow Lao brother who said up their he will be going back to laos after his 18 months i am 21 years of age right now and i also wish to go back to laos as soon as i can after i am confident in my field, which is accounting/finance/business/economics. i dont want to go back to Laos as a rookie business man but as a top notch guy who can truly help my country.
i think one way we can solve this is by first forming a lao business community in each of these countries and then make contact with the embassy.
Truth is it is up the the Higher official to decide for the LaoNai. And land link with China and Vietnam is going to cause more corupt problems for the LaoNai and it would be too late for them. Because after that progress is made more illegal Vietnamese and Chinese will come to Laos and those from the west gonna have to train them to work in Laos and less opportunity for the Lao local to obtain certain jobs in the future. And it will be very hard for them to find jobs because of competitive experience on jobs. I don't know what kind of decision the Lao government makes, but Laos in 20 years will eventually be poorer in a worst nightmare then now on development sector. I can already see the corruption and bad decision that has already been made offically!!

Yes, I certainly will go back to Laos (my home country)!
I have been studying overseas for more than 3 years on my own resources but I am not intended to live permanently in overseas like many of my classmates, I have been travelling throughout every province and almost every districts of our country in my previous job and I saw many poor people in the country and I knew that the developing of our country needs skilled people take part.
Other two friends of mine - one from Hanoi (Vietnam) who is doing double degree in IT& Management and one from Wuhan (China), she is doing a master degree in International Relations, they are also saying the same word what I just said.
