cheer up  that is good news. it is difficult to find evidence communist Lao threaten to the Hmong tribe , after 35 year they have rule . i can't speak for all but what i see and know communist Lao treat or give Hmong tribe privilege in many field , in Lao gov. many Hmong people hold high rank position in Lao government ,  in my home town  Lao gov. bring them( Hmong) down to low land make better living or easy to govern ,  later almost of those Hmong climb back up to hill where they used to be , they want live by them self without any authority supervision .

Lots of Hmong here in the U.S. says they hate LaoPDR. Other say they don't like Laotian people because we treat them bad. So when a Hmong person does something good here in the states and gets a spot light in the news paper or tv, "we're HMONG" when there's a killing or drug bust (opium to be exact) "we're Lao" it just happen to be our last names Xiong,Vang,Lor etc...

Don't get me wrong folks, I don't need them to say their Laotians when they're in the spot light. I just think that many hmong people need to know that they we're granted permission to live and have lands in Laos by the King. When they had no place to stay long long time ago from China. They kind of "KHON LUEM BOON KHOON" Anyway other thing is I'm sick of Hmong people crying to the U.S Senate and asking them to do this and that in Laos. Their # 1 excuse "we fought along the americans". Wait a minute shouldn't you people be fighting for Lan Xang back then and not along w/ the Yankees. Oh that's right, the YANKEES paid the hmong, how honorable. Also enough is enough, the Americans and the land of United State did/gave what it can... so quit crying and dept is paid. Stop sounding like some african american folks w/ the RACE cards.

Just to clarify.

When the Hmong get busted in the US for drugs or gangs or what not they are called Laotian by the newspapers. Laotian is a nationality as well as an ethnicity, and they came from Laos. Many official forms and papers in the US call Hmong, Lao.

The Lao Govt has one of the best records amongst SEAsia in thier attitude towards, and dealings with, minorities, indeed it is the Lao Govt who calls all uplanders Lao Sueng, and considers them all to be citizens. Obviously there have been serious mistakes  made. Why don't we wish both them and the Lao govt the best of luck in patching up old animosities and making a fresh start of things with the repatriated refugees.
