The French brought the coffee plants from Africa and Latin Anerica to grow in southern Laos.

Isn't the Bolaven Plateau where tea plantations are? I think they are part of the ecotourism on offer.

Check this out for nice tea plantation photos by a german tourist: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Laos/Bolaven/Tea/

Some French people who worked before in Vietnam and who didnt want to go back to France went to the Bolaven Plateau and started to grow Coffee. This was around 1900.

First places where Tatheng, and "lak 42" all in the Paksong area.
(coffee grows between 600 and 1200 meter (Robusta) and between 1200 and 1800 meter (Arabica)
(Pakse is 100 meter ASL, and Paksong 1300 MASL, Tatheng 800 MASL)

Tea is from origin Chinese, also the tea you can find in India has his origin in China.

I am proud of our coffee just wish that we are more exposed so that the coffee lover can truely appreciated my little land-locked country.
