(Oriental) was originally mean to describe Midle East and near East Asia, (Irag,iran, Turky, etc.) Not far East( what the most use ''Asian'' to describe now: China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Korea, Japan...etc. and of course, i know Oriental is from Latin for ''East''     In the United States, the term '' Oriental''  has connotations of the british Empire and of a time when some people in Europe saw the saw  the East as backwards and exotic. i don't think that '' Oriental'' is is an offensive word in Europe, but activist in the U.S. discouraged  use of the word begining of the 70s. when i hear the word'' Oriental''  i definitely think of the 19th century and of a eurocentric and racist   world view. i know some of our Asians who are offended  by the word'' Oriental'' and some are not, including me. and some who have no idea what the word means.....

Oh by the way, the name( Li shi min) Sound like you are relative of the(Huang-Ti=Emperor from the Tang-Dynasty of 618-907. Are you a descendants from that Dynasty?? 555.
