(KPL) On March 10, a reader said he read an advertisement that inserted in newspaper which advertised the availability of beautiful telephone numbers. He found that the most expensive number was 39 million kip and the cheapest one was 80,000 kip. All companies were involved in this kind of business, He noted that this was really market-oriented and nothing was wrong but should we consider whether this business activity needed proper management? or let this easy money business operate in the future and what its future consequences?, what is the measure of concerned companies to protect their fame? Why parent companies dont organize bidding for beautiful telephone numbers? Are there hidden agenda behind this easy-money business?
Those are inquiry from the reader. But to us such a business deserves consideration as it is price speculation. Is this case similar to that on silk handicraft we have published previously? In fact we have no idea about this case. We raise and publish this issue because we want to know clarification for this and we have no any prejudice against those involved in the business of selling beautiful numbers because they surely pay tax to the government.
Given market-orientation, we must admit that the competition is tough and service to bring in profit is diverse. Sometimes they are illegal and people are victimised. In our country, the policy by the Party stipulates that market mechanism in our country must be under the management of government and under the same law which means that everyone have to respect the law and our country must be rule of law.
One thing we should bear in mind is the target of achieving in developing the country as a socialist nation and what we are supposed to do and develop right now is the establishment of fundamental factors for achieving the socialist objective. To the problem on beautiful numbers we should ask ourselves how we should bring such business under lawful management. Vientiane Mais April 1, 2011 copy, P.2
