(KPL) Lao Star Channel is determined to finish replacing its current Standard Definition (SD4:3) with the High Definition (HD16:6) by the end of this year to improve its broadcasting system, according to Lao Star Channel General Director Soulaphet Keoviengkham.
Mr. Soulaphet said that the HD would help improve the clarity of the image and that the Star would use cutting-edge technology to improve its production and digitalize its broadcasting system as well as expand its broadcast coverage to Europe beside to existing markets in Asia and America.
The Lao Star Channel, satellite television, management held a reception last Thursday to mark the Star�s 5th anniversary in Vientiane.
Lao Star Channel was officially opened on 8 April 2007. It broadcasts 40 programmes, increased by 11 programmes as compared to 2009.
Over the last three years, Lao Star Channel has paid 480.3 million kip as tax to the government.
Besides to the tax payment, the Star publicises charity and humanitarian information for the public, according to Mr. Soulaphet.
So far, Lao Star Channel has broadcasted live over 50 programmes transmitted from the National Television, including the 25th SEA Games, Vientiane Capital�s 450th Anniversary celebration ceremony, King Anouvong�s statue coronation, the 10th Session of the National Assembly�s sixth legislature and the ninth Party Congress.
