Thailand leaves World Heritage Convention

Isn't it sad that even maintenance and preservation of important sites become entangled in the web of politics? I know both sides have their reasons but if there is not an inch of selfishness and egocentricity from either side, the people from both sides will benefit.

I think Thai Government make a Big mistake to withdraw themself out from world heritage UNESCO . Coz they might lose all the World Heritage sites in Thailand as well. Then, all the Tourists will travel to cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, China...etc.. instead.

In my personal opinion, I really don't think if Thailand leaving or withdrawal from Unesco's World Heritage Convention, and is unlikely to affect Thailand tourist business. But they will lose their status as world heritage, Don't forget Thai built their country as one of the best tourist destination in the world. to me the words'' World Heritage'' is just the phrase added to the names of the cultural and Natural properties that's all. The value and Characteristic of the sites will not vanish or change ya'll know what I'm saying, I also do not believe the number of tourists would drop if Thailand really leave......

I heard that the UNESCO never supports any $ to these world heritage sites at all. They just came to helps to planing and managing the sites with you only. Also given you a big sign that this is the World Heritage Site.

This is just political posturing by Thailand. It is like a spoil kid who throw a tantrum when he does not get his way. If Thailand is serious, then it should leave UNESCO immediately and not just walk out of the WHC. The current government already have said that the paper work will be finalized by the next government. Ha ha ha ha. The next Thai government will reverse this decision once it comes into power.
