"Hmong in the U.S are illegally shipping in opium from Laos" ashamed

Chicago - The shipment of embroidered jackets which arrived at O’Hare from Laos last month were beautifully embroidered and handcrafted, but what drew the attention of a federal canine officer was that they were completely saturated in liquid opium.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the International Mail Facility near O’Hare recently seized the shipment of jackets along with the narcotics, according to a release from CBP.

On Monday, CBP K-9 Rogue, a four-year-old Belgian malinois, was alerted to an imported shipment of 16 embroidered black jackets, listed as “Mong Traditional Skirt handicraft.”

The jackets weighed a total of about 10 pounds and the parcel was addressed to a location in Minnesota.

CBP officers x-rayed the jackets and found no idden linings or secret compartments, but a narcotics test revealed the presence of opium.

“Usually our CBP officers working with international mail will see an opium-soaked lining or cloth sewn into a jacket or other piece of material,” David Murphy, CBP director of field operations, said in the release.

“This is the first time we have seen entire jackets that were dipped in vats of liquefied opium, dried and sent to this country. Although concealment methods may vary, our officers and canines remain vigilant in seizing loads of harmful, unlawful narcotics everyday.”

Transferring from a CBP Cincinnati express consignment operation in April, Rogue is the newest member of the Port of Chicago CBP canine family, and has already seized multiple shipments of opium, ecstasy and methamphetamine, the release said.

Throughout the year, CBP canine enforcement teams working at international mail facilities examine millions of foreign mail shipments coming into the U. S. from all parts of the world.

In Chicago, the canine crew includes German shepherds, Labradors and beagles, along with the new Belgian Malinois, These dogs are highly trained to detect large amounts of currency; illegal drugs or agriculture items such as fruits, meats and plants.

Hmong illegally trafficking Opium into the U.S in Chicago O'Hare international airport to Minneapolis/St.Paul has been caught several times now.

Not only does it not concern the Lao community in the state, but also the U.S will be profile Laotian or Hmong as a drug user in the U.S. Also this will put Laos in a bad drug trafficking concern for many other country who might be concern about Laos image for its investor and business in the future.

I'm only concern with Opium or other drugs coming from Laos. And "Laos" has been poping up many times now in Chicago about the Hmong smuggling opium.  In the last 6 mouth there has been reporting of 3 case of Opium smuggled from Laos.no

Let me quess the so call jacket is black, perhap its from the dye that they use that has trait of opium in it. Hmong has been known to use this dye techniqe since for ever....nothing new...

With the canine being able to sniff it is not rare at all, when a person is using/doing opium if you are wearing the same clothings. the dog will detected.

As you should know. For the last 7 mouth Chicago security has been reporting 3-4 opium case caught in Chicago O'hare international Airport to StPaul/Minneapolis international Airport of this year alone! They were all of ethnic Hmong background who claim the uses of opium was for Hmong medication and religious purpose.
