Laos cannot just be too nice with any foreigner. Not only that! Foreigner tend to ignore such law and carelessly do whatever they want just because they are foreigner that's make them feel they have the right to outlaw the local and that country morality.
I mean look at Thailand for one thing. If a foreigner carelessly touch any girls and that girl report to the police.

That is sad, and reading the whole story, I had questions running in my mind. If he was indeed with a Lao girl, couldn't she "read" signs that hey, it isn't exactly a guesthouse, but an embassy... and since when do embassies look like a "guesthouse", not even a hotel? Is it really that hard to spot a hotel from an embassy? To my mind, trespassing is against the law. If you're a tourist, you have to know your place. However, if this guy was indeed imprisonned, he should be "duly charged", he can't be detained without any charges. And there has to be a specific time frame for such detentions. Laos should be conscious of human rights violations, the way most civil nations should be.

The lesson: When you're a tourist, a farang, don't thing that wherever you set your feet on, any country would adjust to your whims. It is not a free-for-all world. You have to abide by the customs and mores of the country instead of the country adjusting to you. Mostly, it's a case of "common sense".

According to Lao Family Laws for Foreigner citizen, article 8. Laos authority can put him in jail for only

30 days and fine up to $5,000. if he had sexual contact with that girl.

Does anyone has any idea why Laos has 2 laws( one for Lao citizen and one for foreigner citizen)?

and i think these laws apply only to westerner citizens, why?
