By: Diamond

(KPL) Minister of Finance Phoupheth Khamphounvong has said as much as 90 per cent of enterprises in the country function Untitled-1-eng-1.jpgillegally thus posing difficulties to tax collection.

"Because of such the weakness, relevant authorities have to pay greater attention to their responsibilities and encourage people to observe tax payment,"said Mr. Phouphet.

One of interesting questions raised by members of the National Assembly was about the proposed increase of salary for government employees, police and military personnel, which was raised by a NA member for the second constituency of Phongsaly province Mrs. Chanmany Namvong.

Minister of Finance just said yes when he was questioned whether the Ministry of Finance had no problems regarding the increase of the salary.

Couple months ago, Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong issued a decree on the increase of salary for government employees from 3500 kip per index to 4800 kip and of monthly allowance up to 760,000 kip per person.

So what's next? just stand by and watch?

They always admit that there are a lot of illegal things happening in Laos. But they never say anything about what they are going to do to stop it. So there is no point to even talk about this problem if nobody doesn't really care about it. People just turn a blind-eye and pretend nothing is happening.

The gov't does it, so everyone else does too. I love corruption, everyone wins! They should raise taxes so they can raise their salaries too, haha.

I wonder where they got this 90% number from if they don't even know what's going on legally.
