Oklahoma State’s defensive players are familiar with the type of offense they will see Thursday in Boone Pickens Stadium.
With former Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery coaching the University of Tulsa, the https://www.cowboysdaclub.com/connor-hamlett-jersey-c-78.html Cowboys are well versed in the BU style offense they’ve faced — and, admittedly, struggled with — over the past few seasons.
But as the Cowboys prepare for Tulsa, one thing they can’t truly prepare for is whomever the Golden Hurricane throw out at quarterback in the season opener Thursday night.
It could be Luke Skipper https://www.cowboysdaclub.com/noah-brown-jersey-c-77.html, the redshirt freshman from Forney, Texas, who coach Mike Gundy said the Cowboys evaluated in high school and liked. Skipper hasn’t played a collegiate game.
Or it could be Chad President, the sophomore from Temple , Texas, who has played in packages , but missed most of last year with an injury.
Will the uncertainty present a challenge to Oklahoma State?
Yes and no, according to Gundy and the players.
“They’re going to run the same scheme for the most part,” linebacker Chad Whitener said. “But you also don’t know the different throws they make and the different things that they have for you, whether he can run or can’t, just stuff like that.”
Gundy said the fact Tulsa has had a quarterback competition all Emmett Cleary Jersey August hasn’t affected too much, because either way, there isn’t a whole lot of film on the two quarterbacks.
President has five career pass attempts one completion and 76 career rushing yards. That’s it.
Gundy did say, though, that he doesn’t expect Tulsa’s offense — which ranked fourth in total offense while running more plays per game 85.6 than all but Texas Tech and California — to drop off, despite the loss of 3,000 yard quarterback Dane Evans.
“I would caution everybody, as I’ve done with our defense, https://www.cowboysdaclub.com/geoff-swaim-jersey-c-79.html in that there haven’t been many rollover years with Montgomery ,” Gundy said. “With his calling plays and running offenses at other schools where he was at, there would be a group of guys leave and people thought, ‘OK, now they’ll settle down.’ But that wasn’t the case and they went out and got 5 ,000 yards with some new guys.”
