Notice the hill-like shape locate on the far right of the photo above. If you just take a quick look at the photo, you'll think that it is a mountain like those in Vang Vieng. But this photo was taken in Vientiane.
Could this be the old city wall of Vientiane? If not, what else could it be?

LOL that aint the mountain. They are trees near the market. you can see it now a day too.
Yes, they were many Ton Sam Sa in KhouVieng Road. but there are very few now aday, since they cut it for expanding the road. i still remembers when i was young, Khouvieng is a peaceful road ever see in summer and winter.... two sides of the road filled with beautiful trees.... just like the Green Gate when we ride through.

You are 100% Right. I guest this picture about 1960 look at (SARM LOOR)
Back to 1950, This place used to be ( KHAI THA HARN KHONH SONG ). Builde by FRENCH.
i thought it would be morning market, cuz i noticed there are some threes behind the market so it would be khouvieng road and lao post office just next to it.
Good memory, there were a lot of big and tall trees around the urban city, Vientiane such as: Ton Sam Sa, Ton Cam Thet, Ton Fang (Red Flower), Ton Po, Ton Sak (Teak). This Government only know how to cut the trees down, but they do not know how to grow the trees for replacement like other countries. Man Bo!!
It doesn't look like a wall at all. The sinewy terrain looks exactly like a mountain! Are you sure this is Vientiane? great photo nevertheless. I love archival photos.

It was high trees. Tonh Samsa'a. We don't have such a high city wall before in our history. We had only city war which maid of woods & bamboo to protected our city only in the ancient time.

Just so you know there are alot more trees in Vientaine now then ever and the city is alot more beautiful and clean ever. There are more and more Park like setting popped up here and there now.
Back in the mid 70's thru the late 70's the Morning market was dirty and disgusting. I speak from experience.
Yes, they cut down Ton Sam Sa but Kouvieng is now alot cleaner and safer to drive then back in the mid 90's. again from my personal experience.
