Laos-China links to take flight

Aviation links between Laos and China received a boost last week with the two nations agreeing on unlimited flights between international airports in each country.

Mr Yakua Lopangkao ( right ) and Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Administration Department of China, Mr Wu Zhouhong, shake hands after signing the agreement.

Director General of the Lao Civil Aviation Department, Mr Yakua Lopangkao, led a delegation to a meeting with the Civil Aviation Administration Department of China in Beijing from November 2 to 6.

The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at facilitating air travel and cargo transportation between the countries.

The agreement will also support growth in investment, trade and tourism in the region, and between Laos and China in particular.

“The memorandum of understanding comes under the framework of the agreement on air transportation signed between the two countries in 1978,” Mr Yakua said.

“The understanding allows airlines from both countries to operate unlimited numbers of flights between our countries. Each country must nominate the airlines undertaking such flights.”

The agreement also allows each side to assign their own flight routes to best cater for variances in flight frequencies, types of aircraft, passenger capacity and airport standards, he said.

The two sides also agreed to accept flights from the other country arriving via international airports within the Asian region. For example, a Lao airline could fly to Korea or Japan before landing in China .

Mr Yakua said the previous agreement only allowed for each side to operate seven flights per week to the other country.

Lao Airlines currently operates seven flights per week from Vientiane to Kunming in China and a Chinese airline also offers seven flights per week between the two cities.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to cooperate on human resources development in the civil aviation sector, share research on air emergency responses and to continue discussions on using aircraft manufactured in China .

I'm glad to hear that and wish it will be last long. I'm just concerning about they might stop running the flight between both countries as if they see not many people flying to our country. I don't expect that Laotiane-Chinese Businessman will not travel to this route that much. Mainly for Tourist to travel ( But most of the (backpackers) tourist prefered to travel by buses as it more beautiful scenery along the way.

Please catch this sentence "The two sides also agreed to accept flights from the other country arriving via international airports within the Asian region. For example, a Lao airline could fly to Korea or Japan before landing in China"

Hahahaaaa...............Please my friend focus on this "Director General of the Lao Civil Aviation Department, Mr Yakua Lopangkao, led a delegation to a meeting with the Civil Aviation Administration Department of China in Beijing from November 2 to 6".

It's not Lao Airlines. Lao Airlines no power to manage this matter, why dont you try to think widely then Lao Airlines, the possibility may be fund from other countries come to invest this business in Laos then organize new airline and use the agreement between Laos and China this time.
